No, it's gamestop.
If these publishers were smart, they'd realize how much money publishers/devs make off of steam sales and stop trying to shove $60 games down your throat for months on end. Have seasonal sales, have daily deals. This is very easy to do with next gen consoles, especially with so much focus on cloud gaming, always-connected, etc. Can easily have sales in the digital shops(PSN/Xbox marketplace/ nintendo store) for 50-75% off. Watch how much more money you make when you offer insane deals for your games, and compete against used games. There's $50 games on steam for like $15-20 when they're on sale, sometimes even less. Used games cannot compete against such low prices, and if they do they're much less profitable. If used games are going to go away, then we need steam sales on every console.
Needing to be online every 24 hours? That shit needs to go away completely, that's unacceptable.
Why is Gamestop to blame for this now?
Really, the whole argument that used games are hurting gaming is just 100% BS.
If I buy something, i have the fucking right to do with it as I wish.
Wow ms. I personally don't give a fuck about always online but way to alienate what is probably 10-20% of your user base
Overall I think the alienated more than 10-20%
The real answer is to make your game not boring enough to be traded in.
If it wasn't Gamestop it would be Amazon or Best Buy or someone else.
Gamestop is not the problem. People need to stop being sheep and believing they are the root of all evil.
Yea, can't remember who, but someone made a good analogy of why its bullshit since libraries don't kill new book sales and used car lots haven't destroyed they automobile industry.
Also if Gamestop was really so evil then why are all these publishers giving them exclusive preorder content to begin with? Wouldn't it make more sense to hoard that type of content for people who buy digitally or direct from the pub/dev?
Used games is fine, we have the right to trade and sell whatever we buy. Gamestop is what pisses off all the publishers though, they sell used games for $5 less and get 100% of the profit off that, instead of someone paying $5 more and the publisher getting like 80% of the profit.
I have no problems with used games or gamestop but that video makes a good point.
Would like to point out that GOTY editions for Fallout 3 and Borderlands 1 (I'm hoping for BL2 as well) had second discs with all the DLC on it that could be used on multiple accounts/consoles, as many times you wanted.Originally Posted by Jornna

Also fucking lol at MS, PS4 better have some serious fucking shit that I want to play otherwise I'm just sticking with PC this gen, maybe getting a WiiU.
Like someone said, if publishers really had an issue with Gamestop, why do they give them exclusive pre-order DLC as well as sometimes exclusive content.
Pre-order bonuses are because of gamestop. DLC is because of gamestop, online passes are because of gamestop, everything is because of gamestop. Did anyone actually watch the video I linked?
Maybe they see it as a way of recouping some of the money they lose to used game sales. It is kind of how when I really don't like somebody, I avoid them and have nothing to do with them whatsoever; companies, however, can fucking hate each other and will still do business with one another if money can be had.
All such tales of GameStop and their used game sales destroying the industry are false. Those who would lead prefer that history suit their needs, and rewrite it to see that it does. And why shouldn't they? The fault lies not with them. The reeking masses yearn for pre-order bonuses and exclusive DLC. It is their opiate, and they consume it greedily. The people do not endeavor towards greatness, but rather mire themselves in their petty strifes - shackles on the feet of man. Their leaders give them no more than that for which they clamor. It is history's oldest and most oft-repeated tale. Do men exploit this weakness to dominate their fellows? Mayhap they do. But they succeed only because the people are eager to know such dominion. GameStop supposedly destroying the industry is simply illusions born of man's fear. It is they who see this charade for what it is and join in the pageantry who are to blame.
People blaming Gamestop for the fall of the gaming industry are no different than the morons saying that pirating movies are the fall of the movie industry imo.
Its just "cool" to hate on Gamestop.
