    Car got keyed. What do?

So I came back to my car in a parking lot today to find it had been keyed. It wasn't super bad, but its still noticeable. They had ran a line across the two passenger side doors. There were several scratches on the same side of the rear bumper as if they were "warming up" or something. And then there is one random 3 inch gash on the driver side door. I honestly don't know if that was from the same incident but I never saw that before either.

So anyways the cuts aren't very deep. But I still have no idea what to do about it. I don't really wanna take it to a shop and get a paint job. I figure they will charge me hundreds of dollars because it spans 4 frames of the car technically(big line through 2 passenger doors, small scratches on rear bumper, and then a small cut on the drivers door). Since the cuts aren't very deep any suggestions for me being able to fix it myself? I've never dealt with anything like this so I'm pretty clueless about it.

Any advice or suggestions much appreciated.

If you can't get a fingernail in it, it'll buff out.

I can get my fingernail stuck in it, but just barely. The small cuts in the rear bumper are slightly deeper than that.

    And thanks for the link.

I doubt you're going to get it out by wet sanding and buffing. Take it to a detailer and they can tell you in about 30 seconds. I wouldn't attempt it yourself, buffing isn't Something you want to simply dive into.

Was considering that as the cheapest option. I think I'll show it to a shop to see how bad they think it is, and then go from there.

Don't go to a body shop, go to a detailer.

I know how you're feeling. I had my new car all of a week before that happened to mine. I was livid. Tried to buff it out, no go. Not sure what kinda car yours is, but mine is a 2012 Hyundai Elantra. Not the fanciest thing, but still my first ever new car. Touch up didn't last long, and I got $400 estimates. I like my car, but not that much. It annoyed me for a few weeks every time I saw it.

Since then, I have a few dings from rocks hitting the car, small debris, etc. I even have a scrape on it that literally made me cringe when it happened. At this point, it sucks yeah, but getting it hammered out and repainted (because of where the damage is) I got estimates of $2500+ The damage isn't even that extensive. The car still runs like a dream, and I don't plan on selling it anytime in the near future. I'm not going to dump 3k into it when it's not going to really do anything. Though, the paint job on Hyundais is complete shit. The cars run great though. Guess they gotta save their money somewhere.

There's a product called drpaintchip or something that a lot of people swear by. Check that out. My recommendation though is to ignore it. It'll happen.

Showed it to a auto wash/detailer on the way to work. He tried to make it fade but it didn't really work. He said I should look into color touch up pens from an auto shop or toyota themselves so I guess I'll be doing that next.
