Nope, I'm running XP SP3 and I know for a fact I'm not running a firewall, Windows or otherwise. I've just been relying on my router for things like that. Since none of these explanations seem to work in XP, I guess I'm screwed. Since I'm not that familiar with the Windows firewall technology, I don't think I could figure it out myself, and I wouldn't want to turn it on just for this even if I was familiar with it anyway. If there's another way to get the same result however, please tell me, as I would really like to know. I'm tired of the crap buffering same as everyone else.

This seems to have nothing to do with time warner. The IP address being blocked belongs to google, not twc. It's youtube specific (or not? Maybe the same service is used by other companies?), and works for all ISPs. Youtube throttles bandwidth to a little faster than the video needs to keep up, because it's generally pointless to send a 1 gb video over 1 minute when it's going to take 3 hours to watch anyway (that is if they actually watch the entire thing). This shouldn't prevent any buffering, unless you are skipping ahead to a section that otherwise wouldn't have downloaded yet.

Hah, most definitely not. I've constantly experienced youtube shitting all over me and waiting forever to buffer a 4 minute 1080 video with my 30/30 connection. I couldn't even watch the ffxiv controller/exploration video when they came out because after 30 minutes it still wasn't even halfway. (And I didn't even pause it.)

Was wondering, maybe Peerblocker? Not sure if you can block entire subnets unless that's not what those addresses are listed as. Was there a specific reason you didn't want to use the firewall?

If I'm going to play a >2min video on my PC, I usually just download it as .mp4 to my "temporary unsorted trash" folder and delete it later. No retarded Youtube tiny-or-fullscreen choice, and no user comments! There's a thousand plugins/extensions out there; pick one.

All of my problems were router related and I had no idea because of how the issues manifested.

I'm hard wired from the router which is in my computers room, and I had no Internet problems with the exception of YouTube being sickingly shitty. Lowest quality possible would take forever to load.

My apple tv downstairs which streams worked but got slow sometimes and would need to buffer, figured that was apple tv. Dad had a problem with his laptop so he called Verizon, I was getting 25 down 5up on pc but his laptop was at 0.06 down. Verizon guy sent a new router got it the next day, boom, YouTube is better than ever and the laptop now gets 23down. Apple tv is now streaming even 1080p flawlessly where it never could even do 720 flawlessly. I never would have thought my YouTube problem was router related, made no sense to me.

When trying to fix my problem I did do that command line that was posted as well, so combination of new router and that.

Yeah but if it's a streaming live event you can't do that (then again, it might not work under the same rules as a video already loaded up to youtube). If it could make it stream faster that would be nice though, because the last several time I watched streaming live video it buffered and skipped a ton for me whereas most other people worldwide had no problems.

yo white people, i noticed last week that for some reason whenever i tried to watch a recently uploaded youtube video it would give me the "an error has occurred, please try again later message"

i disabled these rules and youtubs started working again. i saw last night on FB that archi was having the same problem and disabling the rules also fixed it for him. so if any of you are having the same problem, there you go.
