Video Game Addiction

I might of beaten my FFXI addiction but it'd also to a degree ruined other games for me also.

This. I just lose interest when I try and play any other game. I have a really massive game library, but I think I've completed maybe 5 games total since ffxi came out. For some reason I WANT to xp for 8 hours at a time in a party of six, like god intended =/

I too get cravings to exp for hours at a time. I have no idea why. I've exp'd Thief 5 times for gosh sakes. I also find a lot of games just don't hold my attention anymore. I considered getting Dead Space since it has great reviews and many here like it, but with only roughly 9 hours of game play (so I've heard) I'm not interested.

As far as ffxi private servers it allows me to play when I want, get stuff done, and not ignore my life. I can do everything I've wanted to do even when I only have a little bit of time to play. Game play will vary with each server with what works and what doesn't.

I started on sinister skies and really enjoyed it, until Twiz took over the lead GM position. He moved us to the DarkStarProject server format, which was cool, but changed how the server operated. Main point, took away the boost in exp. The majority of the player base complained, to which he answered with the basic "if you don't like it, leave" tone. So, many of us did. After leaving, we found out he banned most of us from the forums although he doesn't know how to ban us from the game. I just logged on for kicks and 3 ppl were online.

I now play on a different server. A lot of people around for the most part. There is somewhat endgame so if you don't want to strictly exp there are other things to do. PM me or hit me up in game if anyone joins!

wtf @ this thread. Haven't we had a few private server threads pop up in which people said it couldn't be done and that se shut it down yaddayaddayadda, and now I'm finding out there's all these private servers that exist. wtf man, wtf.

Should we take private server discussions to PM instead of openly talking about it?

there's no rule about it, just surprised these places existed and I never heard of it (unless it was something already shut down by SE).


I'd suggest asking the runners of the servers though whether they want that stuff posted here. We have an SE rep that reads these forums, so people may not want to get caught.

very true lol. That would be the only reason I could think of not to post it. Otherwise, idgaf and maybe once I beat TR I might try one of these private servers to see how good they are.

I wouldn't mind loggin into a private server to poke around I miss the magic of FFXI. Doubt I'd really play but I wanna see things again. Miss not going to school to play all day, and during the summer :O.

Reading this thread has made me nostalgic as hell. FFXI was my first MMO, and I played during its peak (04-09 or so, on and off until XIV release) and it was unlike anything I'd ever experienced before. I was making a shitload of money working for myself at the time, so I could work whenever I wanted. I remember 3AM Faffy camps and going to bed at like 7AM, waking up in the afternoon, working a few hours, rinse, repeat.

Being among the first NA to beat DL, Tiamat, Jormy, Vrtra, and get to sky/sea first was such a rush. Making 300k each on limbus coins was a jam. I've never seen competition and certain rivalry among people like in that game. FFXIV does not hold a candle to what XI was during the good old days, and I'd happily play through release-days RoZ and CoP again. I cannot even listen to XI soundtrack without getting all teary eyed, especially Dynamis-Xarc. That was such an adrenaline rush for me. I remember the first time I killed that first time extension as RDM without dying.

More nostalgia: lvling naked bard with 5 pre-nerf rangers in 10 days. Getting a dalmatica in 2005 and then dinging into it on rdm later. Kiting Kirin, lol. Getting k-club on first LoO battle. Being upset at Nidhogg only dropping E-bodies and giving them to BST. Camping Arthro 7 days a week and getting rich on cloths. Feeling compelled to give a sky tour to new friends and acquaintances that got access. QQ

God, I have more so I need to edit. I was running up to San'd on a 75 and there was a lvl 1 nub warrior who could not figure out how to equip his weapon. I told him how to put on gear and stuff, casted a whole bunch of buffs on him and sent him on his way. He used to thank me all the time even years later after he had several 75s (My first friend...d'awww). Stuff like that just gives me the warm fuzzies.

@Ddz: I too get all "these feels" when I listen to the Vanilla/RoZ/Cop OSTs. I've played them for the Mrs and usually go all story-mode about crazy PTs and such. She never got to play.
