Confirming rumors, Activision has revealed the next game in its billion-dollar shooter franchise; titled Call of Duty: Ghosts. The military-based FPS will arrive on the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on November 5, and on "next-generation platforms" on an unspecified date. No Wii U version was announced.

A press release reveals the next-gen version of Ghosts will sport an all-new engine "from the developer that started it all, Infinity Ward." The series has been using the same engine, with numerous annual modifications, since 2005.

Saying it would have been "safe" for Infinity Ward to develop a fourth entry in the Modern Warfare series, Mark Rubin, executive producer of developer Infinity Ward, noted his team saw the next generation of consoles as the "perfect opportunity" to start a new chapter for the franchise. "So we're building a new sub-brand, a new engine, and a lot of new ideas and experiences for our players," he added.

Activision will debut the next-gen version of Call of Duty: Ghosts – and revealing its new engine to the world – during Microsoft's upcoming Xbox 'Next Generation' event on May 21.

Ghosts features an "all-new gameplay experience built on an entirely new story, setting and cast of characters," the press release further detailed.

An onslaught of additional info and explosion-filled marketing is expected closer to E3 2013.

seriously... Ghosts has been done into the ground with by Ubisoft/tomclancey franchise.. "herp a derp untraceable military force hittem before they even know you're there"

based on the leak/rumors that's not (entirely) why it's called Ghosts. There's supposedly been some sort of large-scale catastrophic incident.

I am curious to know why they pulled a Nintendo and created a new engine that was behind(not even close) to the competition's engine, Frostbite 2 or 3. The CoD series has made more money than any other series ever. Yet they are so cheap they will use the same engine for like 6 games straight. Then make a new one that isnt top of the line. FFS.

Right or wrong. Good or evil. They're sitting at the top and it probably doesn't make business sense to bust ass right now. Maybe wait to unveil super awesome new best engine ever after sales decline and they need to generate buzz for the next title.

And that douchebag thinking in the company is what produces the same game every year. Making a top of the line engine with their capital would not be hard. If sales decline from people tired of the series or genre, Guitar Hero, it will probably be too late for a top of the line engine. And if they are already cheap now, with their billions of revenue, then they will still be cheap when they try to revive sales. But knowing Activision, they will probably kill the series once sales and popularity fizzle out. But that will not be happening soon.

at least they're bothering to implement a new engine at all, even if it's not Frostbite 2/3 level.
edit: although I'm sure people will find that arguable since this is not a new from scratch one

You've got it all figured out, but since you're not a CEO within the industry, you can't change a thing. Sure, its the rise and fall of babylon, but that's the way those at the top want it. Find it, milk the hell out of it, dump it when its no longer profitable, find something else.
