Since it was Wada who said "No FF7 remake", maybe this guy will allow it. I don't particularly want one, but jesus christ it would pull them out of this financial mess.

Thank god Wada is gone. He was always the true reason behind FFXI & FFXIV's shortcomings. Then the aforementioned boxing out of Suzuki and Sakaguchi. I mean seriously, why the fuck would you oust those two? They MADE Square what it was during the 90s, and built an entire brand into something mad respectable. Wada just stepped in and started taking over shit after the major flop that the Final Fantasy movie was, then started further reducing the role of Sakaguchi in the company afterwards to build up his own name with the board members and shareholders.
Iwata best be watching out for his own shit now, Nintendo will definitely be looking at this on going drama.
Sakaguchi was too much of a risktaker. The company nearly went bust twice because of him
FF13 sold nearly 7million units, which is more than FF12. It's too bad XIII-2 sold only half that since it was the better game. But thats kinda to be expected with a sequel since the main numbered FFs always have the biggest hype. And I'm sure many were turned off by FFXIII and didn't give the sequel a chance.
Not so fast, Kaiba. During the Spirits Within debacle, Squaresoft was actually stable.

Seems like every thread some new person has to tell us about how terrible 13/13-2 did, when in reality they sold well. Makes me laugh every single time.
On topic, not the least bit surprised by this news, it's been a long time coming.
Final Fantasy 7, 8, and 10 are the only ones that sold more than FF13. 10 was by a slim margin.
Saying that FFXIII failed because it was the fourth highest selling FF is a pretty ridiculous statement.
FF13-2 has sold 3.2 million copies. A little less than half of what FF13 sold, but still nothing to sneeze at and better than any of the "Western" games.
I do not like FF13. I think it's utter shit, but I can't argue the sales numbers.
Pretty sure the handful of people who still wanted an FFVII remake grew out of that phase 5+ years ago. No one gives a fuck about remakes anymore, work on current/future IP's.
Nobody can argue the first point - 13 did sell well.
However, considering 13-2 was made to make up for 13's shortcomings and attempt to retain FF fans, selling at only half of the original is pretty damning. LR's numbers are going to be interesting.
EDIT:
Enlighten me then. Or is this just a blatant ad hominem?
First post. Specifically,in addition, you seem to forget/not be aware that Sony was the one that saved Square during the Spirits Within fiasco
... and the capital infusion from Sony was more than enough to get Square back on track after the film (look it up if you don't believe me, they were back in the black by FY2002).
I wasn't referring to numbers sold, just that XIII as a game wasn't that good. Nobody wants a sequel to a game most people didn't enjoy playing, or didn't even finish. It really isn't a surprise then that X-2 didn't sell as good as XIII.
@ others, hiding behind numbers sold is the EA/Activision method; don't go there.
Man, I'll never understand all the Spirits Within hate. I thought it was a fine movie.
the shareholders are the ones who decide who to put in charge of the company. they had no faith in Sakaguchi, as he was too much of a risktaker.
FF1 and FF7 proved successes for him.
nobody really cares what might or might not have happened when FF1 came out, financially speaking.. but FF7 was essentially an all or nothing effort, and the company didn't go down under during TSW simply because Sony bought Square stock to keep it afloat.
I mean the graphics were amazing for the time, but everything else sucked. So I totally get the Spirits Within hate.
