The only remake I'd ever want from SE is Xenogears with a playable second disc, but since that will never happen, just make some new games in a reasonable amount of time already.

Seriously. Only game that is projected to be PS only is the X/X-2 remaster.

Meanwhile 360 got Infinite Undiscovery and Last Remnant. SO4 was also exclusive until they released the International version. Everything else this gen has been multiplatform.

The word "remake" should be a bannable offense in this thread. Go emulate the shit on PC and maxed out the visuals.

I am actually surprised that people say SE's advertising sucks. I guess I luck out on that shit. I can't go five feet outside without seeing a billboard/bus/bus stop posters with Lara on it. I also remember back in the day when no one advertised games, I would see FF commercials all the time and laugh thinking, "why would SE make commercials?"

Also, annoyed that SE didn't consider it's sales high enough, and I guess those didn't include digital sales. Really? I hope this blindness doesn't prevent them from funding more as that game was fun as shit.

Remember when FFVII was coming out, there was a billboard ad near my house that had the Junon Cannon on it. I liked that billboard...

Expecting Eidos to carry them was pretty ridiculous. And of course those figures don't have digital sales factored in. Companies are always hesitant to share that piece of information when the NPD's info works just fine.

Deus Ex, Hitman and Tomb Raider got very expensive marketing pushes behind them. Those Visual Works trailers are $2-3 million each.

It just occured to me that Versus has had two such trailers lol.

Hell, part of Hitman's marketing campaign had to be nixed. BRB, putting a hit out on someone.

Couldn't agree more about SE's marketing/PR team sucking.

Even if XIV's dev team got restructured and it shows in the end product, the PR is as horrible as ever. It's like they're stuck in the 90's or something, using the same kind of budgets.

The way they kiss the media's ass in Japan while giving the finger to the fans is beyond stupid. Closed mega theater was the worst offender.

Yeah, I've seen plenty of Tomb Raider commercials but my comment was aimed at things beyond that. Companies like Ubisoft release tons of videos of the dev team talking about the game, process, etc. Trying to convince us it's not gonna be same shit (although it will be) and building hype. It's thing like that which sell games nowdays. I mean look at GW2, before that came out you couldnt throw a stick on the internet without hitting a GW2 video. Atleast it seemed like that to me. With XIV we yet to have a video commentary.

Recent example was at the Sony conference when they came out to say look forward to E3. Fuck off with efforts like that SE.

Another thing SE needs to do is step out of their private conference bubbles. People watch game conferences and shit, and most of SE's are held behind closed doors. Make your presence felt and show off your games at E3 and other things to everyone. Not just the live audience.

SE's advertising is legitimately awful. The only advertising I ever saw for Tomb Raider was the GameStop commercial trying to sell preorders using a Jimmy Hart version of Eye of the Tiger, which actually convinced me not to buy the game.

I don't know that it was all that bad. They were on Conan and were hyped up during the Spike VGAs which like it or not is getting the product out in front of its intended audience.

Gee, I wonder how SE could make some easy profit? Bravely Default and Blood of Bahamut say hi.
Maybe if they actually localized games.

Depends on your definition of sale. The moment a product is at the retailer, SE's already made their money unless some kind of arrangement was made. When I was working at K-Mart back in the day and handling stock in the electronics department, our little scanner gun told us exactly how much the store had paid for any given item when they bought it. And the usual retail ideal is double that. Since this was the time of the PS2 and games floating anywhere from $30-50, a lot of titles were in the $15-25 range on the store end. When you start seeing shit in the bargain bin, it usually means they just want to cover that cost, or in more extreme cases, accept the loss just to get some kind of return from their erroneous investment. Such sales might also coax people into buying other things while there.

To that end, 3+ million sales doesn't surprise me. There may be 1m sitting on retail shelves around the world still, sure, but all that really means is SE didn't have to print a new batch of titles to meet a projected demand from both themselves and retailers. We can almost see an inverse of this with certain Atlus titles, as if they expect shit not to sell, but when it does, people wind up having to turn to hiked up ebay prices due to limited release.

This kind of shit blows my mind. I know they're hurting financially, but are they honestly worried that they won't be able to recoup the cost of localization?

I have a feeling it's usually one of those "We can't afford to give this title the marketing it deserves in [region] right now. So, we'll wait on localizing it for them until we can." Then they simply forget about it, or it becomes so old that people are aware that it's an old title and won't get the proper attention.

Either way, you would think that in the position they are in, they have to be looking around to turn existing projects into more money (psst like localizing games that are already completed). Maybe it will happen once they're done funding all these garbage mobile games.
