Stephen A. Smith, on his radio show (so not the shitty version of Stephen A., the somewhat credible one) had some good points today about how ARod shouldn't be hit so hard, brought up Braun, management, owners, and MLB officials including those in the office that also deserve some punishment. Basically how he's being singled out and the punishments should be more linear and should not stop at the players. Not that ARod shouldn't face the music, but it needs to play for a lot more people and a lot louder.

Let me try and pinpoint what I don't like about this article. I may not have it all together, but these are my thoughts.

The writer can't seem to decide what he wants. Says A-Rod deserves to be suspended. Discusses how baseball "wags its finger" at PED use and that it's highly unprofessional in how it handles the issue. But at the same time doesn't think that MLB can use this Biogenesis stuff as evidence, doesn't think it's fair to give A-Rod the big suspension? What they've got on A-Rod is a lot more than just PED, it's tampering with investigation and all sorts of other BS. If you want baseball to get serious about this then it doesn't start with letting obviously incriminating information fly just because it isn't a positive test. More on this in a moment

I don't like how he sounds upset that two of the "best players" he's ever seen have been taken down. They fuckin deserve to have been taken down.

Selig is a little shit but this isn't just ego. The issue is that the MLB as an organization cannot get its shit together. They need to be fast and hard. Fuck this appeals process. Fuck the fact that it can drag on forever. I know appeals need ot be a thing, but seriously, playing through appeals and having them go on as long as possible is a mockery. And there's so much leaking of info and so much dragging on of all this stuff; how long have we known about Biogenesis now?

Test more, test better, suspend faster, and stop acting pious. That's what the MLB needs to do. This editorial just seems to want to whine about Selig without really ever getting to the point. It seems like he's trying to say it's not fair to use this Biogenesis stuff as a way of suspending people. Sorry, but I disagree. When your testing is so shitty that players who have admitted to extensive juicing can bypass it, then yeah, this HAS to be evidence.

I don't really see what the problem is with that statement, from a performance standpoint it's hard to argue that Bonds and Rodriguez aren't the two best players most of us have seen and that Mike Trout is threatening to get on their level.

Isn't that exactly what the article is bemoaning? MLB's testing is weak, they are engaging in wildly unethical behavior in pursuit of players engaging in wildly unethical behavior, rampant hypocrisy by crucifying the players who "saved the game" etc. etc.

Basically, Selig turned a blind eye for a decade+ "for the good of the game" and now he's extremely over-correcting to save his legacy, which as far as steroids is concerned is already ruined. McGuire, Sosa, and Bonds already happened, already broke "hallowed records" etc.

Ray Lewis is a known PED-cheat, will be a first-ballot HoFer and noone will bat an eye. There's been, what, 15 PED suspensions in the NFL this year already (about as many as MLB has had so far) and noone cares about it. Is this issue in baseball worth making PEDs front page news virtually every day for the entire season? Bringing bullshit lawsuits against people in order for them to tell you what you want to hear about people who play a game? Is "cleaning up the sport" (which this prolonged Biogenesis ordeal hardly does anything about - a dozen suspensions of players who were passing drug tests left and right) worth distracting from what happens on the field?

Simply put, do you enjoy baseball more because of this?

Or another way of looking at it, since it's been reported that there are NBA players on the books at biogenesis - do you want the NBA to begin their own investigation, stopping at nothing to determine which NBA players bought PEDs?

Article just didn't do a good job of making the point. IMO the biggest issue here is the terrible testing. The lack of frequency or accountability or scope of coverage. fix that then you're more in your way to the right track.

Thing is like cail said MLBPA might not like frequent testing. Since, you know, they're cheating.

My Ray Lewis slight had nothing to do with you being a Ravens fan btw - he's just somewhat of an NFL contemporary for Bonds or ARod - an extremely high profile, extremely productive (except in the playoffs, obv.) player who is one of the best we've ever seen, etc. etc. who is a strongly suspected PED user and gives equally ridiculous excuses (nigga talked about the devil and shit) and noone cares in the slightest.
