I was evading the crap out of Odin + 3 Valkyries on THF last night for regular Odin einherjar. Seemed higher than before but it's 75 content and I was eyeballing it, so purely anecdotal. On a side note since this thread is about attack/def changes. I got 1-shot by wheeling thrust for like 1700 damage by one of the valkyries in the same battle. I remember it doing maybe 800 or so before the update. Protect V got dispelled for what it's worth. Since wheeling thrust ignores a % of def I doubt it would have made a lot of difference.
Since they raised mobs ratio cap from 2.0 to 4.0 it would likely make a lot of difference.
Keeping hate requires using hate tools or enmity gear and a proactive approach to hate management?
And this is a difficult concept for people?

This is the result of a game having a broken, useless hate system for years.
Definitely, Sharpshooter is the way to go to solo Lairs. Sancho alone needs around 7-9 mins to kill the nest, sure, but that's because I'm cowardly behind with sneak/invis without being able to issue any maneuver, haha
Also, I love the new hate and attack/defense updates. Once youve recovered from the surprise, you remember that little think called "Provoke", and my PUP/WAR keeps functioning perfectly with Sancho far away healing and buffing me.
So I figured out the solution to everyone's problems. If you just push your defense to 3000, you should be fine.

Speaking of def we've all be rather rudely shown how much more dmg the mob can do but didn't SE say they'd make it go both ways that we'd be able to lower dmg even more with high def? Any word on how effective that is now?
No, they were fairly explicit in their intent in this case. It seems they left everything above 2.0 ratio the same and just extended the range downwards. As long as you're not using a defense-killing JA, odds are pretty good you're not benefiting any more from defense than ever before.
So, more than valuing defense more, what they did was penalizing low defense more... Well, this still puts PLDs in a better place, considering they have enough base defense to for example, have their Protects dispelled and not be utterly destroyed like the DDs, but I would have liked a benefit of rocking that 2800 defense, haha.
Could have pushed it higher, honestly. That's only two Minnes (with the wrong instrument) and no Titan's favor. I doubt the gear I'm wearing is the most defense/slot I can get either. I wanted the defense +20 rings but there were none on the AH. Is there a better defense food than tacos?
Edit: For the record, all my buffs were: x2 Soul Voice'd Minne, Defender, Harden Shell, Tav. taco, 3/5 merited Protectra V with Sheltered ring, and Rampart. I'm sure someone less gimp than me can push 3500.
Plus, /BLU and Cocoon.
Don't think Cocoon stacks with Harden Shell, unfortunately.

Aye. He had to change jobs three times, lol. Started on WHM to Protectra me, jumped to BRD to soul voice songs, then ended on BLU to Harden Shell me.
Edit: Without Harden Shell I was sitting at ~1600. With Cocoon instead of Defender I'd be around 1800 I think?
More like 1900, if I'm not mistaken. But I'm pretty sure you're right and Cocoon and Harden Shell can't stack.
I dont see a point to even check how that def would work against real target because those buffs are unrealistic to use for a longer fight. Not to mention with buffs like that even BLM would get 2000+ and would probably keep hate better too with mana wall and dmg from spells :D
I just wanted to see how high I could get it. Harden Shell only lasts about a minute anyway, and that's most of the value.
