About half an hour ago one of the bivouacs in Yahse (#2) got destroyed. Do we have any info on what causes this?

Probably a lack of supply runs to that bivouac?
Nope, the warp is broken. Re: Nynja, one of the npcs there did mention supply runs.
Wonder if the frontier stations can go boom then.
So they want us to not only run supplies to remote ass, hard to reach camps, but they want us to keep running them to made camps at such a frequency that the made camps can break before the camps that haven't even had a single supply reach them yet can be built. I don't have very much hope for the longevity of this system <_<
That sounds horrible.
I would imagine they can't since you can't run supplies to them after they are built whereas with Bio's you can.
It makes sense that Bio's can be torn down, it's just a massive pain in the ass. Especially for the ones which are hidden behind reives or require huge runs.
It wouldn't be as bad if there was a specific, quantifiable # of runs that needed to be done. For instance, if the NPC told you "We need 4 more packages of supplies or will be forced to abandon this post in 6 hours (earth time)." at least we could check who needed what the most.
That clearly cannot work on the long run, I'm confident they'll fix things. Probably end of april is too early, they first want to see how things turn out. There might be more small things here and there to alleviate the issue that we don't know about.
Either way if things end up like that I'm sure they'll have to change things. Just don't expect them before a couple of patches...
I mean there should be *SOME* kind of depreciation for a system that revolves around pioneering. In theory it should be a give/take system, like with Conquest and Campaign. I bet it would be harder to tear it down once you buff and bolster up the bivioucs and turn it into a cabin instead of a little tent.

I understand there is a decay, but as about all servers just started colonizing Morimar and Hennetiel and hearing already of Yahse going down is way too damn fast.
Maybe it's just an issue with the decay rate, they already mentioned something like that about the 26%<>23% oscillation in colonization rates (official forums).
Maybe they expected more players to focus on the new content?
Tbh, at least on my server, I still see many people without the expansion, or with the expansion but who never done even a single imprimatur and are still focusing on old content.
I suppose not everybody reads BG or similar boards, not everybody is "informed", and from this point of view we could say that maybe the new exp did a "bad job" informing new players?
I dunno, to me it seems just the same as the previous ones. Maybe it's just the player base that changed too much from the previous exp.
I think people are really used to not doing the latest expansion stuff for new gear and amusement. Sure Abyssea was a big thing but after that we have so much content to do that is not bound to any new expansion and more about old expansions.
Dynamis Revision (RotZ/CoP endgame 90 revamp)
Voidwatch (Post Abyssea battle content)
Nyzul Uncharted (ToAU 99 endgame revamp)
Walk of Echoes Final (WotG endgame conclusion)
Odin II (ToAU endgame 99 revamp)
Legion (New battle content)
Salvage II (ToAU endgame 99 revamp)
There are some smaller updates as well, except for WoE most content has been centered about old spread out content for new stuff that actually is kinda good. So while learning that you don't need a new expansion and trying to complete all this there is a new expansion. And for the record, Salvage II came a bit late, for bigger groups there are no chance that they would have been able to complete the farm before the expansion for a whole +1 set.
And then we have people that can't see the forest for all the trees. "It's just campaign all over again". What? Well, no one looked att WotG and said "It's just Conquest and Expeditionary Force all over again!" (I hope).
What I'm trying to say is that there is a lot of stuff to do already, even though there are new gear people don't like to thread blindly into stuff. And that's what an expansion is about exploration. New fun stuff. =D
Yes, and it's a fantastic part of FFXI, from my point of view.
So I hope their "solution" to the underpopulation (???) of SoA areas is not that of invalidating old content.
Constantly monitoring and adjusting the decay rates sounds like a better solution to me. Ideally they should set the decay rate to a dynamic value that changes according to several variables (server active population, SoA active playerbase etc), but I'm not sure they have the technology (or manpower) to do that.
It would be nice if they had an NPC that would give us an idea of what bivaucs are in danger of falling, and how much supply they require to maintain for the week so we're not blindly feeding the same camps over and over and over just because we have no idea what the system has to say about it.
That's what that useless scout npc is supposed to do imo.
Btw, I think I read here somewhere that bivouac where unlocked in order. I went to get the waypoint in hennetiel, went to bivouac #1, wasn't up. (it was up @ 3, the closest one).
Sorry if you already knew this, but knowing this woudl have saved me a trip XD
not sure if anyone already mentioned this, but the Scout NPC that marks maps will only mark stuff that have already been established.. so if your Foret has no bivouacs up, she'll only mark the Frontier Station, and if only 1 bivouac is up, she'll only mark that one.
now if only we can get them to remove the redundant "Frontier" word from bivouacs so that it'll show which # it is instead.
