Idk, lol. Keeping the salaries so low contributes to corruption, rich people being overrepresented, and the revolving door with consultancies. Doubling their salaries would also be a completely trivial expense and might be the single most efficient way to improve national security.

I think they should increase their compensation for sure, perhaps by just subsidizing DC housing. It makes sense as a work expense and probably gets them up to 200k compensation total.
