These are prime examples of why the people who like thinking that "it doesn't matter what people believe as long as they don't shove it in my face" are wrong. Every decision that people make is at least partially motivated by their beliefs. You can't separate a person's actions from their beliefs.

I don't understand the problem with this point of view. It doesn't require the denial of scientific fact or the repression of other's beliefs, and it maintains a somewhat fundamental human belief in something greater than itself.

You're assuming that belief in some kind of deity is necessary or fundamental. This is an unfortunately typical American perspective, as in a majority of other 1st world nations, believing in a deity is the thing that's considered odd or quaint. Also, while it doesn't deny science, it does deny basic principles of logic/critical thinking. It doesn't take a genius to make the hop from "science has only ever taken ground from religion, and never given, for as long as something that could be called science has existed" to "there's probably no deities, or if there are, they do absolutely nothing in this world and are therefore indistinguishable from non-existence".

The problem is that if you're satisfied with "god did it", you stop trying to find the REAL answer. Imagine if we left everything to "god did it", we'd never have come as far as we have as a species. We'd still be thinking that god controlled the sun and earthquakes. Instead, we have actual answers on what causes the sun to rise and set, and what causes earthquakes. You can keep you god of the gaps, I'd rather humans keep trying to find real answers.
