Republicans don't have a monopoly on racism and sexism. While their policy positions obviously endear them to voters who place discrimination as their actual policy priorities, I can definitely see some moderate old Dem from a blue collar background that generally align with the Dems but have no use for any of the Democratic party's modern social liberalism (and consequently just doesn't believe a woman can/should be President). The same way there were probably a bunch of those people who didn't vote for Obama because he was black.

Now them coming up to Warren and being like "You're right about everything but you need a dick" is a bit more implausible imo.

There were dozens of articles and think pieces about if a woman is emotionally able to be president when Hillary was running. That was a huge talking point of what happens if she gets her period and starts WW3. Sexism, homophobia, racism, xenophobia is pervasive through society but people pretend it doesn't happen because it doesn't happen to them.

I am sure that people didn't vote for her in the primary due to some 7D game theory because of her sex and either their personal biases or their lack of faith in the American public. I even believe that they told her that she was their favorite candidate but they had doubts about her electability because she was a woman. I doubt that the literal quote was actually said multiple times. It was probably a sexism-translation.

The problem with sarcasm/hyperbole is that the statements don't make sense when taken out of context, and the modern internet (particularly Twitter) comes with no context.
