A little late to the party but I wanted to toss out some support for Proraso's products. I saw OP using their shave soap (which I love) but try the (green) aftershave as well. Yes, it does have alcohol in it, but the combination of menthol, witch hazel, and allantoin in the aftershave leaves my skin feeling light (no heavy cream residue) and pretty refreshed. Really nice scent too, and a good alternative for those who aren't a fan of sandalwood. The scent doesn't last terribly long, but it's not overpowering either.

The best part? It's cheap, probably not more than $15 a bottle at a drug store, and leagues better than all of the other offerings you can on a drugstore shelf. If you don't see it at a drugstore, try a barbershop or somewhere that sells razors and brushes. They'll probably charge you a $5 premium for it, but it's still a great value for money.

Does anyone do their eyebrows? I don't do anything other tweezing the unibrows, but been thinking about it lately.

Iranians and their eye brows. Just handle the unibrow let everything else be what it is in my opinion but then again I have asian eye brows.

If it's totally out of control then yeah you should do something about it.

This thread shouldn't have dropped off the first page.

About to drop around $120 on Amazon now that my last Mach 3 blade needs to be replaced.

    Spoiler: show

After some research and whatnot, gonna go with the EJ instead of the Merkur 180. I could save a few dollars by not getting the stand, or by getting a cheaper stand, but whatever. I recently went to a barber to get a straight shave and it was wonderful, and I'm so tired of shaving with mach3's/fusions. I absolutely hate shaving, I detest it, I do everything I can to avoid it or procrastinate. My facial hair ends up getting too many days of growth because of this and makes shaving even worse. Hopefully this new, relaxing method with a better end result will change all of that.

Boyiee you don't need a soapbox. That proraso soap comes in a box itself. Combine the savings from soapbox + cheaper stand and get a better brush instead. You should always trim your beard as low as possible before starting the wet shave. It makes it much easier/less irritation/less cutting/etc.

Sorry for lack of updates guys, truth is I've been rocking stubble only and just trimming with my Norelco trimmer, so my razor has gone untouched for a couple months

I just got my variety pack of blades including: Feather, Astra, Dorco, and Super-Max. The last has very good ratings and are a great price when bought in bulk. I've started off using a Feather blade and so far it's nice. I think my next purchase really needs to be a better razor because even going as slow and soft as possible I still nick myself.

    20 blades $7 http://www.ebay.com/itm/20-x-Astra-D...item417415f694

so its been some time. I used the link maz posted months back for helping with my face. And it has helped a decent amount. I am kinda hoping to bring the price back a little tho. At around $60 for the two products its kinda hitting me a little more then I would like LOL.

I have Combination type skin and the products here do work, anyone have any ideas for a little cheaper brand they have luck with?

I know this is mostly for guys, but as a girl with three brothers (one married) I'll say this.

Thanks guys for giving me some ideas on what to get my brothers for Christmas. I'm thinking about getting them all safety razors and blades now; money's just gotten tighter since my mom died and from what I've seen in this thread, going safety razor vs. cartridge razor will help them save some money for other things. Thanks again. ^^

Where were you when I needed you?!?

I can see the soap box wasn't needed but the wood one looks cool and works with my bathrooms ambiance lol. I didn't see too many cheaper stands that I liked, plus, that one specifically had some professional looking pictures of it taken outdoors that kinda sold me. They're both one time expenses so I can live with it. Always new this would be an investment to get stated but it would save money in the end.

Glad to hear it helped. Honestly, I'm not completely convinced about the difference between normal and combination, I think I fall somewhere between the two. Try the Neutrogena moisturizer. I use that and am pretty happy with it and it's cheap as hell.

First shave went well and a little quick, but only did one direction to break in the new blade and get used to the products. I'll probably clean it up before work tomorrow now that I've got a better feel for it. It was a lot easier than I thought and quicker, but if I got a better lather or did more passes it woulda been a bit longer. The blade was a lot easier to use and manipulate than I thought it would be and I definitely got a better shave out of it.

With feather blades you really need a soft touch to avoid nicks, cuts, gashing, slitting, and scalping yourself. I personally like Derby Extras since I average 4 good solid and consistent shaves per blade.

A bit more for blade samplers than what you paid, but still fairly cheap plus IB also does pretty decent kits for cheap.

Also Boyiee if you need to fill that soapbox you could grate and mold the Proraso or put a new soap in it...say from this badgerandblade.com thread. If you find the badger is too floppy for building a good lather with the soap you can get a boar brush and those whip soap like a dream. They do need a bit of breaking in so it doesn't feel like a boar's ass going across your face. You should also want to rinse the hell out of your badger brush unless you really really like the scent of badger musk.

I'm starting to really feel like a B&B shill but I really really can't recommend enough on stalking their B/S/T section for deals since people will often cut their own throats (heh) on prices for a lot of things. $60 starter kits shipped that would cost twice that, 90% tubs and creams for half price, barely used brushes for a reasonable price. Hell, you can even sometimes find threads doing PIF deals where they'll send you starter kits for just the S/H.

Also a handy reference for lathering and doing passes: http://www.youtube.com/user/robbDV?feature=watch

I got a great lather and shave this morning before work. Shaving twice within 18 hours with a new blade and style was a little rough though, but it came out great. Should I be shaving every day or every other? I didn't break out or anything today but I had a couple tiny spots of blood.

Depends how fast your beard wants to grow. I find it very hard on the face to constantly shave every day but every 2-3? Perfect. Milage varies on hair, blades, lather, number of passes, style, and skin sensitivity.

Wouldn't be super concerned about weepers while adjusting to wetshaving. The two-handed yank and pull of a Mach 3 vs the two finger pinch holding the end of a DE doing almost zero pressure and very very short strokes is a big difference.
