Weiner's debating skills are impressive but he doesn't have the substance to back up his career making it very easy to throw him under the bus for political points. Arguably what Spitzer did was worse than trading some dickpics yet Spitzer is crawling under the radar right now while Wiener gets flayed alive by the media.

Wiener was popular but didn't get much done which is why Democratic institutions are ranging from meh to throwing him under the bus. Unlike Clinton or Kennedy he has very little substance but has proven himself to be a scrapper. This entire circus simply reinforces that Wiener will fight and that we're willing to look past sexual infidelities if you have proven successes.

He has some charisma and used it often and they found it annoying. Even after a 2 year hiatus and what he did in the past, he's at the top or most polls, or a very close 2nd to Christie Quinn. And sadly, when it comes to running for Mayor people don't exactly care about some things like infidelity, mayor's can get with alot of shit. There was a Toronto mayor recently who got caught smoking crack, and there's a long history of shady mayor's/governors in the US.

Just speaking as a NYC resident, we don't have many great candidates running right now, the fact that Weiner is near the top of the polls speaks to that. He's probably lucky that his wife stuck with him though and is using her Clinton connections. A sextape could probably surface for Weiner in the days before the election and he'd probably get a surge in the polls, I think after having Bloomberg for so long people just don't give a shit.

It's a weak pool where Quinn should be facerolling her opposition but she has political heat to take for being Bloomberg's lapdog in that 3rd term kerfluffle and she doesn't really exude leadership in the way that Bloomberg does. Guys like Liu, DeBlasio and Carrion have limited household recognition and that's not even to mention the Republican side of it where the most well-recognized face is Lhota. Thompson will be remembered as the guy that nearly won the last mayoral election on a shoestring budget compared to Bloomberg.

If there were stronger candidates, Weiner would be ignored but I'm sure he realizes the pool is weak enough for him to potentially pull off an upset. Now wouldn't that make for one helluva comeback story.

It's the thrill of doing something you know people would find wrong. Doesn't matter if your wife is gorgeous. Further, we have no idea how the relationship is once the cameras are off.
