The problem is that this isn't just about his personal life. It's a symptom of his overall approach to politics. He's notorious for not having accomplished anything in Congress other than giving good speeches that got him on cable news. There's a reason he had pretty much no support from his colleagues when the initial scandal happened and why he was pushed out so quickly when it was clear he wanted to stay and try to ride things out. How can the average New Yorker expect him to be able to get along with all the various local constituencies he'll have to work with when he couldn't even work together with other people in Congress to have something, anything to show for his time there? His campaign (so far) amounts to "trust me" when his record gives no reason to do so.

What started it all was the Citigroup merge in 1998 and the repeal of Glass-Steagall. Citigroup merge was in violation of Glass-Steagall, but the Federal Reserve Chairman at the time Alan Greenspan, pretty much gave Citigroup a pass by giving them a temporary waiver. And guess what, at 1999, GLB act was passed (effectively repealing Glass-Steagall) because Bill Clinton openly supported it, and oh he was also the one who signed it.

I didn't say he was perfect, nor am I saying it was a good decision. But to claim that means he was a bad president I think is silly. There's a lot to suggest that the GLB actually helped make the crisis not hit as hard, as banks that took advantage of it survived, while those that didn't crashed.

I also completely disagree that the housing crisis wouldn't have happened had G-S remained. (note: I would have preferred we still have it, just pointing out I don't think it would have completely stopped the inevitable).

As well, that doesn't mean he wasn't great.

Weiner is has no substantive record, got caught in a spectacular lie and isn't very popular among his peers. He's got balls (hehe) running for Mayor knowing all this but he knows how weak the pool is so he figures he can win because everyone else is comprised of nobodys. Some New Yorkers rather see Jimmy McMillan become mayor than Christine Quinn.

Americans love their sex stories but this guy has nothing to show other than having just discovered cybersex. He should have done it through WoW or something.
