If you want to work on arm strength the best way to do it is (from what i'm told) is to start with a 3x12 shoulder workout, then 3x12 bicep workout then a 3x12 tricep workout. It would be better if you could do 3 different kinds of work outs for each muscle group. If you cannot buy small 5 lb weights to help with shoulders, fill up a few 1 gallon jugs of water and mimic some of the shoulder workouts you would do for dumbbells. like side lateral raises, over head dumbbell press, etc....
Another way to go is buy a band (giant rubber band, cheap at wal mart) and do a lot of resistance training. Can do all the workouts with just 1 band. After this competition is over, i am going to spend the next month doing a lot of resistance training to firm up my entire body.
Also jealous you can workout outside. Afraid my area does not have a workout park, makes me wish i lived in a place that did. Would rather do it outside than inside.
Keep it up, got a few tips though.
If you find yourself running more and more i would highly suggest investing into a heart monitor, whether the strap around the waist or even better the wrap around the arm. Learn what your target heart rate is for fat burning is and maintain that level!
If your heart starts to beat to fast than your body will go straight to burning muscle and avoid fat all together which defeats the purpose. Because muscle converts to energy must faster than fat which is a reason a lot of amateur marathon runners look anorexic.
Add in some push ups, sit ups, jumping jacks, invisible squats (squats without weights). Because lean muscle burns fat all day everyday, where running will stop burning muscle when your heart rate goes back to its resting state. New runners though lose fat faster because there body is building muscle in the legs to deal with the stress which is a good thing, but once your body gets used to it, you will come to a point where running will not burn the fat off as well anymore. So learn a few other exercises to incorporate into your work out. ^^ sry for the long post, also keep up the good work.

Wondering if the earbud cords would get in the way. I have a Galaxy S so it should fit something like that. Trying to rig something so I don't have to spend money. The bra solution works but I'm worried about liquid damage to my phone because holy shit I sweat a lot. It is like 7000 degrees here though.
Okay so I got back a bit ago, still dripping with sweat and quite honestly, disgusting. It's fucking hot out there. I hate to have to stay indoors to run on the treadmill because I love the outdoor atmosphere but running in Florida is rough.
Anyway, felt like shit starting out today, wasn't as good a day. I put in a lot of effort but I feel like I didn't make any progress from my last workout to today. Probably mostly mental, but I also think I should have waited longer after eating before going out, even though I ate fairly light. I hadn't eaten since this morning at about 6AM when I came home from work, though, so I didn't want to run on empty. Felt sluggish, so I'll have to adjust that.
I was chugging along though and some 45ish year old guy came running by me and said, "Good job," which helped boost me a little bit. Feels nice to have random encouragement even from a random stranger. The workout community is generally really friendly. It's awesome that someone could see me struggling and huffing and puffing with my spare tire and just take a second to make me feel more motivated.
I think I am going to find a local 5k race and set a goal to train for that. Maybe two or three months from now. The main goal will be to be able to run that far again - it has been nearly ten years since I've even been able to run a full uninterrupted mile - and just to finish as best as I can.
Anyway, I don't feel like going into too much detail on my run. It was hot as hell out there and I felt like pure shit. However, I came back home to my apartment and came to some conclusions:
1. I am going to go out more often. I was trying to start slow but I feel like I'm starting over again every single week. It's great that I can manage to be even a little active over not being active at all, but it isn't enough anymore.
2. I am going to set a main workout goal - in this case, running a 5k race by July or August - just need to find one that's not far and put my name in the hat.
3. I am going to set a main weight loss goal. I will have to do more research as to healthy ways to lose weight and how much I should expect to lose weekly and then set it.
4. I am going to bike on Thursday.
5. I am going to run again on Friday.
Any of you local peeps (CS and friends), when I get the 5k and decide which one I'm going to run, if you guys want to also participate I'll post the info, we could have a "BG RUNS!" thing.Non-local peeps can come too if you want to travel. If you guys are interested, I will set it up.
I'd be down for that
Did shoulders today, had to skip out on last night do to my friend needing a ride to work at 5am :\ but I got my OHP to 95lbs today so I'm happy. Still workin on that eating thing though, its a job for me to eat more.
So mixed up my workout today a bit and superset my benchpress to flys and skullcrushers into dips..holy shit that was fun and tiring as all hell. Tricep and chest workout was getting too stagnant, just the supersets alone were enough to get me out of my groove and work them harder.
Hey guys. I've been playing raquetball the past 2 days for cardio and did 5x5 incline bench yesterday and 5x5 clean and jerk today. Haven't spent as much time in the gym as usual lately but will be making more gainz very soon! My goal by the end of the competition is to bench 315 lbs and deadlift 400 lbs.
On a separate note, the Fat Gripz I ordered on amazon came in today and I've been using them for dead hangs.... HOLY SHIT this accessory is brutal! This is my first day using them so I can't recommend them to anybody yet, but I'll keep you guys posted on how well they work for me.
Keep up the good work guys!!
Tomorrow's workout, courtesy of my Grandpa getting a tree cut down to put a fence up and calling me randomly "Hey I got a load of firewood for ya, I'll be there in about 30 minutes."
Tried to start on it today but yeah, that axe is nowhere near enough lol. Gonna have to get out the maul and sledge+wedge for this stuff.
If your looking for a great way to listen to music but don't want something heavy, I suggest picking up a iPod Shuffle from Gamestop, they start at $15 and hold a gig of music, just make sure that your happy with your play list as you wont be able to see what song is up next, not that you should be focusing on that while exercising anyways. Also I suggest a good set of ear buds that have some sort of form fitting to them, also make sure that they have about a 4-5 foot length, to short and they will pull out, to long and you can get tangled, (insert penis joke here).
Also where is local, if you don't mind me asking?
I hate the earbuds I have so I have already decided I need new ones. The ones that came with my nano worked really well but I can't get the thing to hold a charge anymore. :/ I have to go to Wal-Mart tonight anyway so I may as well just pick some new ones up.
Local is anywhere within a 50(ish) mile radius of Clearwater, FL.

Notes: Tired, going to take tomorrow off and switch up routine to the morning starting Thursday as I have found myself for the second time this week not being able to eat until later in the night which is not that great for you. Now I just need to be motivated to get out of bed at 5am so I can workout and make it to work on time.
Funny Side Note: I was super excited when in desperation for something to eat, I remembered that I had roasted red pepper soup in the fridge from a few months back. I opened it up, and I couldn't smell a thing thanks to my allergies. Look at the side for the ingredients. First thing on the list, "Reduced Fat Milk." My house must be in the matrix, because I dodged a bullet there.
Yeah I have had the same set now for 4 years can't find replacements for them anywhere, it's a JVC set with air cushions that fit the ear super tight without feeling stuffy. I use the Sony brand rubber cover on it and it's perfect, has a better sound then any other earbud I have hear. My friend who had a pair of Beats got pissed at me the one time that I let him use them because they were much better in every aspect and only cost me 20 bucks. As matter of fact I thought that I lost them last summer at work and nearly cried.
Also your way to far south for me. I live in Virginia.
10-12 beers
2 fireball shots
1 General Tso's Chicken eaten at 2 AM with five girls
