if all you want is a description then it's a pic of wheelchair guy pre wheelchair, pre tourniquet as well as other folks missing limbs.
For one thing why the hell are people posting pictures of this? The dude is in the hospital after losing his leg. No one seems to stop and think "Hey, maybe we shouldn't take pictures of this right now" or "Maybe we shouldn't publish these until after we've asked the dude if it's okay to make money off of his sorrow.
I hate the news.
The news' job is to show and tell us what happened.
That's what I want them to do.
From Globe's Kay Lazar:
Boston Children’s Hospital received eight patients injured at the explosion at the Boston Marathon. Patients’ conditions ranged from good to serious. There were no patient deaths among the patients brought to Boston Children’s from the scene.
Our patients included:
• A 9-year-old girl with leg trauma who is in the operating room.
• A 42-year-old parent of a patient is being treated in the ED.
• A 7-year-old boy is being treated in the ED for a minor leg injury.
• A 12 year old with a femur fracture has been admitted.
• A 2 year-old-boy with a head injury has been admitted to the Medical/Surgical ICU.
• Three additional patients in good condition were treated in the ED
According to Boston EMS, we will not be receiving any more patients from the Boston Marathon scene
Knowing the extent of the damage is best communicated visually. Reduce everything to numbers like '2 fatalities, dozens injured' and you risk abstracting the suffering and that only serves to shelter the audience from the shock of things. I'm not interested in keeping people's world views pretty and sanitary.
Shit's pretty messed up.
Definitely gonna have to stay away from FB for a while. I normally don't see too much dumbassery pop up on my feed, but I see a lot of friends-of-friends adding chatter about the NYPost's mythical Saudi bomber, which is pretty much guaranteed to end poorly. Everyone I know that was out there today is fine, so that's good I guess. Glad I don't live in the city though, I'm sure everything's a total clusterfuck out there.
Infinite Jest reference? Nicely done.
I'm at work right now, on shift with three other guys. They just changed the channel because they "don't get why the news has to go on and on about this." They are now watching Criminal Minds.

So I decided to put on AM radio in the car for some news ... and wow, I wanted to headbutt my steering wheel in response to the shit coming out of politicians mouths.
First guy was a Maryland congressman who constantly kept referring to it as an "attack" and explained that it may not be organized terrorism but a "lone wolf" terrorist who was sent to live here. Remember before 9/11 where bombings and such were just crazy people or bombers until motive was found? But I digress, this was rather par for the course.
Then the second guy ... oh the second guy ... no idea who he was but he was talking about how we need to swiftly apprehend the person responsible and send him to Guantanamo bay for torture and interrogations right away because they don't deserve rights. I don't even know how to respond to that.
RT @jaredbkeller
CNN: 132 bombing victims so far, at least 10 amputations. Doctors are pulling ball bearings out of victims.
