Al Qaeda is Sunni islam. They think Shia Islam followers are heretics. Iran is ruled by Shia Muslims. And also, Al Qaeda are Arabs and Iranians are Persians. Arabs tend to distrust Persians.

Mind you, this doesn't mean that they couldn't collaborate; they have common enemies. Just that what i just mentioned makes it unlikely.

I remember talking about these things during the Iraq invasion when people didn't understand the infighting between "terrorists" and not knowing who the enemy was when it's a melting pot of Iranian operatives, ex-praetorian guard, al qaeda, foreign freedom fighters, and the nationals who were already divided between sunni and shiite. Quagmire was a fucking understatement.

They just straight up didn't give a fuck, it was literally all about the money.

Anybody that doubted that had to realize it when Cheney gave the interview where they asked what mistakes he'd made, and he basically said that he couldn't think of any because he never stopped to think on if what he was doing was even right or wrong.
