Right, but I thought if the defense can show that the detectives involved were in any way biased against the defendant ("he thought I was guilty from the start!"), it would hurt the prosecution. But then I guess the detective isn't an active witness here, so it probably doesn't matter too much.

EDIT: It's possible the owner actually stripped things, but then put them back on after he realized it was stolen. If he stripped them, and only returned the bike to you, I imagine he could get into a heap of trouble if the topic ever came up.

Going by that, an arrest could just be bias. There has to be some sort of evidence to lead to an arrest. Then it's up to the prosecution/defense to argue it over in court.
