It's amazing how little self control people have if they are so hell bent on "avoiding" spoilers. Yeah, I know, I'm judging, but come on, you can stay from internet for few days. Right? ;_;
Just stop reading comments and shit like that. It's really NOT that hard to avoid spoilers.
I'll spoiler this, but I don't think it's really any extra info about the movie.
This is the list of currently "official" canon material under Disney as of December.
Spoiler: show
So even Old republic stuff isn't canon anymore? I don't see the point of that.
I agree. It makes no sense to retcon things like Old Republic or the Sith Empire Wars. Books about Darth Bane which lead into books about Plagueis, which gave rise to Palpatine should have stayed.
They can always go back and add those to the fold, but getting rid of the entire EU is a good move.
They can also go back, talk to the writers, and take 90% of a story and create something new.
I just got back from seeing it.
Spoiler: show
I dunno, Shadows of the Empire was a good segue between 5 and 6.
They have picked a few things from that era and brought in but it's more point of interest stuff. Taris for example was carried over from KOTOR but only mentioned that it suffered some sort of calamity long in the past without any details.
Bane(the character not the books) still exists in canon though courtesy of the Clone Wars cartoon.
Posted in spoilers thread. Loved this movie. Good stuff. Sad panda I have to wait 2 more years to seein action.Spoiler: show
It makes a whole lot of sense. Star Wars EU fans can be some of the most notoriously finicky, pedantic people. Wiping the whole slate clean allows them to write stories without having to hire on teams to fact check every minor detail so that they don't offend someone into making some youtube tirade.
Plus it's all fucking fiction to begin with. Who cares about canonization or not, it's about the experience. They can't take that away.
Having to hire someone to go over with a fine toothcomb and make sure you get the story right is only part of it. I think the bigger benefit Disney will reap from this is the ability to push out new material on their terms and charge for it again. Fiction or not, those stories had crucial characters to overall universe. I don't care if is now considered alternate reality, it's a shame, but personally I can live with it.
There were many movies seen this year, but this is easily the best film of 2015. It had meteoric expectations and somehow managed to fully meet all of them and perhaps even surpass them.
If someone's GF still needs a summary of the original 3
