I wonder what his response would've been if Lucas had asked him after the premiere of Phantom Menace.

From 2008
https://twitter.com/LaFamiliaFilm/st...08589891526657I’ve left pretty explicit instructions for there not to be any more features. There will definitely be no ‘Episodes VII-IX’. That’s because there isn’t any story. I mean, I never thought of anything! The ‘Star Wars’ story is really the tragedy of Darth Vader. That is the story.
You can quote Lucas at various times over the past 30 years and he has different answers for everything.
I just had to post that donut neck.
Fucking Lucas implying he had a story for the prequels the whole time between Jedi and Phantom Menace like anyone believes him.
uhhh if he didn't have it all planned out then how do you explain Obi-wan talking about the Clone Wars in episode IV, checkmate
dang, u rite.
"tragedy" of vader lol
you need a sympathetic character for a tragedy. that shit was anakin getting exactly what he deserved
Edit: Er... posted this in the wrong thread >_>
The Lucas guy on 4chan has been right on trailer date and the items he talked about aligned with the art that was released this week; I'm going to go with his spoilers being accurate.
Tragedy of Vader my ass.... Lucas is a hack who got lucky with a few films and let the money poison his vision.
Pretty much. In retrospective, a whiny child with superpowers turning into Darth Vader ruined the character for me. Then again, Darth Vader lost much of his appeal when I grew up - casual murder of subordinates just isn't all that cool.
I still like the way he tries to redeem himself, though - at least until they changed the message behind that by making him go back to his younger self post-mortem.
yeah. i was actually talking about this the other day with a buddy. the way i see it, of the prequels, episode 1 anakin is actually the best anakin. because he's just a kid acting like a kid. by episode 2 hes old enough to start showing more good character traits. which he doesn't.
The problem with Anakin is he's just such a fucking whiner that every relationship he has is unbelievable. Why would Obi-wan call him a friend in New Hope? Why would Padme marry him? Who could fucking like this guy?
I think Star Wars: The Clone Wars cartoon (3D graphics one, not the drawn one) captured Anakin's nature the best. He was a caring teacher, a good friend and capable leader who actually cared for his subordinates (clone troopers), and he got much deserved respect from all of those people. Granted, he had flaws as a teacher, but that's probably due to his cocky loner nature as the "chosen one", but I think the cartoon shown what his character was supposed to be in the prequel trilogy the best.
That character and the Anakin presented in episodes two and three can't be reconciled. They just aren't the same person. The caring leader you're talking about is already a mass murderer before the show even starts.
^ This. With the movies as the main cannon points, any extra fluffing out of Anakin's character is moot.
isn't clone wars also still canon tho
it's canon in that the people in charge say it's canon. doesn't mean it fits the continuity. clone wars anakin is definitely a different person.
