Disney buys the rights, and then they put it in someone's job description to describe what is "official" canon. Why do people always get hung up on this shit. If you enjoy it you enjoy it, quit worrying about some executives decision at Disney about what is what.

Because if you want to follow a story, its generally important to know whats actually part of that story. Won't stop me from enjoying the other stuff though.

To be fair, Anakin was [for the most part] a well designed character in the clone wars animated series. But as far as episode 1-3 goes he was a whiny tool.

The problem with Anakin in the movies is they cast two really bad actors to play him.

The kid in Episode 1 just acts like a kid, which is fine, but adds literally nothing to the film. He's just sort of there, and is only important because you know he's Anakin, which makes you watch him more closely and you realize how dull he is.

I haven't seen Hayden Christensen in anything else so I don't know if he just missed the whole point of Anakin or is literally one of the worst film actors ever. I think every scene he has with Padme is like nails down a chalkboard. If another actor had done the part justice, the banter with Obi Wan and the romance with Padme would have gone a long way toward redeeming Episode 2.

As it is, the "tragedy of Vader" line is just fucking hilarious.

Hayden Christensen was in Jumper but that's the only role I can remember him outside of Star Wars. He truly was awful beyond belief.

I don't remember hating him in Jumper so I'm gonna go with he is mediocre and the bad writing/directing of episodes 2-3 brought him down to truly unbearable level

Hayden is actually a good actor. It was just terrible writing and Lucas is a terrible character director.

^I pseudo buy into this. Take the rest of the cast; Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Christopher Lee, Samuel Jackson etc. All of them are proven actors, but when you have a script written by Lucas and then directed by Lucas... yeah.

Kind of backing up the Hayden thing here, but he was also in Takers which was a good flick on its own(if you haven't seen it), and Hayden didn't ruin that one so .... ya gonna go with Lucas on that one.

He was OK in Jumper, but even compared to the rest of the cast he did a monumentally awful job as Anakin. His performance was slightly better in Episode III, but Attack of the Clones stand as a crowning achievement of truly terrible acting.

That whole part of the movie was cringe-worthy and makes me think about if Lucas had ever actually spoken to another person. Can you imagine how he must have talked while on dates?
