During the Del Rey panel they confirmed that past EU characters will be rebooted at some point for future use. So would expect that to be the especially popular EU characters such as Mara, and Thrawn especially.

Mara Jade would be awesome to have, but sadly due to Luke's age might miss out on lot of their relationship (unless of course by rebooted, they change all that)

Yeah the Daisy Ridley portions of the movie seem like they are taking inspiration from the second Star Wars Legacy series from Dark Horse which featured the Solo descendant

Taking place in the aftermath of the Rebel victory in the Battle of Endor, players will experience the events that created the massive, battle-scarred landscape of Jakku shown in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens.’

The downloadable content will be free for all Battlefront players on Dec. 8. But those who reserve the game before the November release date will get it one week early on Dec. 1.

It just wouldn't make sense for there to be a star destroyer and x-wing battle remnants on Tattooine, as far as I'm aware there weren't any space battles for/around/near that planet, no?
