The prequels greatly diminished Star Wars lore. The Original Trilogy was gold, then the prequels were some shitty copper, and now you have an inferior metal from what you started with. The prequels basically retconned the entire mythos and now Star Wars is trash.
The trailer looks interesting and that opening shot of the downed Star Destroyer was OP, but as a huge Star Wars fan, I'll be going into EP7 assuming i'm going to hate it, just to be safe.
Also, if the new villain is spoken of as a "Sith" it'll be yet another major continuity fuck up and undermine the entire story and purpose of the first six movies (awful as the prequels were).
Anakin Skywalker ended the Sith lineage forever at the Battle of Endor. If this new guy is a `Sith` instead of some meddler in the Dark Side, that will be a colossal fucking mythos fail. There's only so many times a franchise can break its own lore and shit all over itself.
wats a sith tho
Since when are Siths based on a lineage?
And whats to stop a new Sith Lord from taking the empty spot?
Edit: Reading up on it. I see what part you mean
But thats just the Order of the Sith Lord that was created by Darth Bane. The Sith Order and religion had been going on long before Darth Bane came along. Luke might have ended that line, but that doesn't mean that people just stop following the Sith order. The lineage of Darth Bane and Darth Zannah continued on for a thousand years in an unbroken line, typically through the virtually endless cycle of the Rule of Two.
"You refer to the prophecy of the one who will bring balance to the Force." - Mace Windu
"Is he not the chosen one? Is he not the one who will destroy the Sith and bring balance to the force?" - ObiWan Kenobi
"You were the chosen one! It was said you would destroy the Sith! Not join them!" - ObiWan Kenobi
"Only two there are: A Master and an apprentice." - Yoda.
So if a Sith Lord is suddenly back, despite having no one to fucking train him, than what Mace Windu should have said is:
"You refer to the prophecy of the chosen one who will destroy the Sith for about six months, before they return like it never happened."
Sidious dead. Vader dead. Sith should be gone forever.
This guy has no idea what he is saying lol. Do you know anything about Sidious' master?
I don't claim to know everything about Star Wars history but I can wiki and get a better handle on it than you seem to have. Darth Bane's Order of the Sith Lords was destroyed. That doesn't mean Siths disappear. Any Jedi who falls to the dark side is capable of becoming a Sith.
Well, here's my take and my problem with it:
If `The Sith` are nothing more than people who use the Dark Side, than it's an extremely shallow term. It's like saying that just because someone was force sensitive and taught themselves levitation skills on their farm, that means they're a Jedi. Jedi training makes Jedi, and Sith training makes Sith.
The Sith are a secret lineage dating back thousands of years, and every force-secret or mystery of the universe that a Sith Lord learned, in all their power and wisdom, would be kept exclusively within this lineage of Master and Apprentice. This should be why the Emperor was so fucking OP in every thing that he did. Sidious wasn't just some Jedi Order exile or some force user who used anger and hatred. He was a fully trained master of Sith teachings.
When he went down that shaft and Vader died, all of those secrets, all the knowledge of a thousand year lineage, should die with them.
Jedi could still turn to the dark side, and force users could still tap into the Dark Side of the Force, but they should never be regarded as Sith Lords which should be something else entirely.
How?
If that's the case than (A.) Sith aren't that special. It just describes emo Jedi. And (B.) WTF was the purpose of the entire Anakin Skywalker chosen one arch?
All rubbish?
Is Star Wars even capable of coherency now or is it just going to be reduced to a shallow cluster fuck of laser swords to make fanboys make excited youtube reaction vids?
Except all of that is easily undone by something like this.
Darth Bane is the creator of the lineage you keep talking about. And he based it all on a Holocron 3000 years older than him. Theres always ways for new Siths to pop up.he guiding principle of the Order was the Rule of Two, which was developed by Bane through the teachings of Darth Revan's Holocron.
Again, do you know anything about Darth Plagueis?
Also, there is sometimes more than 2. Darth Maul didn't die in Episode 1.
The Sith Order was a sect of Force-sensitives who utilized the dark side of the Force. The term "Sith" originally referred to a species of aliens native to the planets Korriban and Ziost, who were later enslaved and ruled by exiled Dark Jedi from the Galactic Republic. These Dark Jedi had once been members of the Jedi Order, a monastic Force religion dedicated to peace through the use of the light side of the Force. The Dark Jedi, who refused to rely exclusively on the light side, challenged the Jedi by giving in to the dark side, which started the Hundred-Year Darkness. However, they had been defeated and subsequently exiled from known space, which led to their discovery of the Sith species. Following centuries of interbreeding and mixing of cultures between the aliens and the exiles, the Sith would no longer be identified by their race, but by their dedication to the ancient Sith philosophy. This religious order would survive in many different incarnations throughout galactic history. The rise of a new leader, or Dark Lord, would often cause drastic reorganizations in the cult, however the Sith would always be characterized by their lust for power and their desire to destroy the Jedi Order.
So I can become an ancient Spartan by visiting the library?
And where does this leave the chosen one arch?
Just face it: Star Wars is probably shitting on itself again because people now know the word "Sith" so let's just go with it even though it makes no sense
(assuming this is what it will be).
It's like the KOTOR storyline. KOTOR was great. The story line was great. However, it was a gross contradiction with established Star Wars lore.
"If you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny. - Yoda.
Revan turning from the Dark Side made for a cool video game, but to consider this shit canon is retarded because it flies in the face of the Anakin Skywalker story arch. Anakin's turn and `redemption` was built up in the Original Trilogy as something entirely unique to the Star Wars Galaxy and the history of the Force.
Unless Yoda is just a rambling old fool prone to hyperbole, words that come out of his mouth should be considered important since he is, after all, the biggest and most important teacher to the audience about the Force.
Darth Plaqueis is retarded EU bullshit. No longer canon, by the way, thankfully.
Also, speaking of the current canon, we have Sith Inquisitors (introduced in Rebels) & as mentioned, Darth Maul is still alive (as of the Clone Wars cartoon ending).
Darth Plagueis is also rumored to make a return (he was mentioned in SW1) in this film.
