Sith holocrons were immediately identifiable with respect to Jedi holocrons, as they were usually pyramidal in shape, and etched with strange symbols and ancient hieroglyphs. Inscriptions usually lined the bottom of the device, and various dark incantations were found all over the smooth surface. At the holocron's apex rested a black crystal, used to power the holocron's store of information.

The design of the holocron was not the only way to discern its affiliation: Sith holocrons emitted a dark presence, creating tremors in the Force upon activation. It took a great deal of willpower for a Jedi to access the dark devices, and some of the more inexperienced Jedi often felt sickly or fell ill merely laying their gaze upon one.

Internally, however, Sith holocrons worked in much the same way as a Jedi holocron. The black crystal of the Sith holocron was made up of intricate lattices and vertices, capable of storing massive amounts of information, as well as the holocron's Sith gatekeeper. The holocron was able to capture the appearance and cognitive networks of the holocron's owner, and transform this into a three-dimensional hologram. This gatekeeper acted as a guide through the holocron's store of information, as a search and recovery engine with a more personal touch. These gatekeepers could relate stories from the holocron's archives to events in the life of the one who activated the holocron.

Unlike their Jedi counterparts, the Sith holocron gatekeepers did not always restrict information that might be too advanced and dangerous for a user, allowing them unlimited access to its entire dark side repository. Though this isn't always the case. Darth Bane was once limited by the Holocron of Heresies, who refused to teach him the technique he sought due to Bane's inability to learn a few techniques that came before it. In the end it all depended upon its creator, and how much they would choose to share.

According to what? Some shit that isn't Star Wars canon? You know how many contradictions are in the EU? Another Darth Bane story was that the Sith consumed and killed one another in a quest for power, almost eliminating them entirely, which prompted Bane to enact the `Rule of Two`.

So which story should I take? Neither of these are in what Disney had decided to be official canon, which is the films and The Clone War series.

I think they are borrowing the twins storyline from the EU. Kylo (Jacen Solo) falls to the dark side. Rey (Jaina Solo) obviously is a force-sensitive light side user... Kylo is obsessed over his lineage and grandfather Anakin Skywalker, hence why he has the helmet and possibly why his lightsaber is a piece of shit.
If you look closely, the saber looks like Vader's saber cobbled together with other parts.
Additionally, I think Kylo wears old "Sith" clothing either because A) he's also a collector of sith artifacts or B) he's trying to emulate his grandfather.
Lots of rumors that Han finds out that Kylo is actually his son near the middle of the film.

THIS is what I am hoping for. This would make for a fantastic story that won't simultaneously shit all over the other movies. Kylo Ren is a fanatic about the Sith and his grandfather, Anakin, and the history of the Dark Side. He wears ancient masks from way back when, and this is probably why we see the Vader mask in the trailer. He's digging it out.

This will add something new to the Star Wars Galaxy that is actually a good addition for a change (Almost everything the prequels did were wrong).
We'll get the bad ass Sith-like villain without it trampling existing lore and Anakin's unique historical importance which ended the Sith (as the culmination of thousands of years of training, secrets, and discovery)

I will be happy if this is what it is.

After that, all that there will be to hope for is that JJ makes a movie with substance and not a shallow action movie that begins to lose a lot of appeal the second time you see it.

With John Williams scoring a new Star Wars soundtrack, even if the movie is mediocre by Empire Strikes Back standards, it'll still be cool at least at first.

The prequels are different, though. I hate the prequels more than most people, but we're stuck with them until a reboot, and even then their stain on the saga won't go away anytime soon. They're horrible, but they're canon, and their 3 films of 6.

For some reason this apparently sounds nit-picky to people, but if a lore starts contradicting itself and breaking all its own rules, it becomes shit-tier Matrix level.
That's the difference between something that tries to be awesome and something that is, like Game of Thrones, or like the original Star Wars trilogy when it stood alone. One is obviously more intricate and complex, but they were both smart, and didn't break their own rules for a plot.
