Its just that the prequels contain more than a few retcons that severely damage the mythos of the originals. You take the prequels out and nothing of value is lost.

Besides maybe that Darth maul fight. That shit is awesome.

Horrible. Some parts he made even worse. Seems very disjointed. As bad as originals were, at least they had some flow to it. Watching re-edits is like watching someone with a stutter having a fit of hiccups.

During the Twitter QA last night, Kennedy indicated that the prequels would not be ignored in TFA (hopefully the midichlorian shit is ignored, however, and should be retconned) and that the concept of the "Sith" would be mentioned at some point.

The prequels were cheesy, campy, and not very likable, but unfortunately, they do still exist

This is pretty much why I always suggest skipping them when introducing someone new to the franchise. If they turn out to love it and just want more, they can go back on their own and watch that mess and take from it what they like.

When I was in college I made my roommate watch the original trilogy for the first time, he already knew about Vader being Luke's dad because he hadn't lived under a rock for his entire life, but the thing I was most surprised about was how ANGRY he was that Lando sold out Han to the Empire. He kept waiting for Lando to turn again during Return of the Jedi.
