yeah, retrievers are so incredibly receptive to voice training it's just insane

@Abandon training works yes but not all dogs are the same, plus the house will also host 3 cats.
Nah son. Dogs love their crates as long as you make it fun for them. They are den animals to begin with. If you randomly throw treats in there during the day they will see it as an ok place. If you're only putting them in the crate when you're leaving they will only associate it with you being absent. That's not fun for them. My dog is at the point where if I give him a bone or something he will carry it into his crate and hide it under his blanket. Later on he'll go in, lay down, and rip it apart. Having cats doesn't mean anything in terms of training so I'm not sure why you brought that up. If your dog is trained well it will never be an issue. The key is consistency and repetition.

Depends on both the temperament of the dog AND cat concerned if they can live together. A cat that's in to running away is likely to be a harder case than one that's happy to stand their ground and give a good swipe across the nose.

I've only ever had adult dogs join us - have one that's some kind of Terrier/German Shepherd/Collie cross thing, and an ex-racing greyhound (harder to find but you CAN get the odd one that can live with cats)... our cat rapidly got the pair of them well trained into the status quo (but our cat's some kind of three legged psycho that thinks she's Rambo) to the extent that the cat hisses and the dogs give up their dog beds so the cat can sit down. Both dogs were cat tested before we got them - but both would probably have a quick chase of any random cat they saw in the street... no way they'd mess with their own cat though.

QFT. Grown up with nothing but Black Labs and they are great pets, just train them like you would any other puppy and discourage bad behavior and you'll be fine. Some can be hyper but any breed can have the occasional hyper dog so it's a moot point. My current black lab is going on 14 years old now and he has been the best fucking pet I will ever have and he was an inside dog. Going to be absolutely devastated when he goes.

I don't crate my dog (haven't had problems with mine either except for the stuff we leave outside ). Though the yard is so small it might as well be called crate /thirdworldproblems.

Anyway I should've said a Lab has the potential to rape a place, as they are very energetic dogs.

My friend's got a pitbull. She's well behaved and friendly, but she barks when I show up sometimes still. She likes to go for a car rides.

The only thing she does that is kind of bad is will steal food occasionally or beg and had some issue with her paw she wouldn't leave alone. They're great dogs if you take time to work with them and make sure they don't pick up bad habits.

    all dogs are guard dogs

I had a golden retriever for almost 20 years that would NEVER hurt anybody, unless they were directly attacking one of us.

He was so fucking scary though that delivery people, and even occasionally friends and shit wouldn't get out of their cars until we came out and shut him up.

Everyone meet Zeus! His mother was a chocolate lab and terrier mix, and his father was a German Shepherd, so he's basically a mutt. She had 3 puppies a few months ago, and they all needed to find a home. Miami Dade Animal Services hooked it up with a microchip, shots, and neutered him for 75 bones. I'm really happy with him, he's really nice and energetic, and he fuckin loves to be held.
    Spoiler: show

I need to see what it looks like grown up. Very similar to my gfs mutt who we haven't the faintest clue what she's a mix of.

I associate rottweilers with white people. Particularly southern white people more than the blax.

Also, fucking adorable puppy. I want one.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

Thanks guys. I'm really happy that I got him. His sister was black, and his brother was brown. My girlfriend liked the black sibling but I thought Zeus was the cutest. As soon as we walked in to the foster home, Zeus ran straight up to us and started licking our hands while his sister bolted to the other side of the room, lol.

that's how we chose our lab. When we went to the breeder to see the pups, Samson trucked 2 of his siblings to say hi, i was like "DAMMIT THAT ONE"

heh I wasn't going to say anything cuz you wanted a chocolate but yeah, labs and lab mixes in gold look sooooooo much better imo than black or brown ones

especially when they're young they're just ridiculously cute
