Increasing the barrier to entry is the best way to invest in the future of emerging tech

An unorganized rundown of Meta Connect 2022:
Quest Pro
- $1500 for a Quest Pro, 1.5-2hr battery duration (a bit worse than Quest 2)
- Defaults to 72hz (90hz max) which I feel is a mistake even though 90hz would make the battery life even worse. No 120hz coming to it.
- Controllers are self-tracked, run a Snapdragon processor, and can be paired with a Quest 2 which can be bought for $299 on their own. I've seen zero news about the battery life of said controllers, which are not swappable
- Includes a charging dock for the headset and both its controllers, probably because they know the battery life is crap
- Full IPD adjustment with two discrete displays, none of that 3-step crap Quest 2 has
- Weighs more than a Quest 2, but the battery was moved to the backside of the rigid strap that makes it more comfortable to wear
- Has colour passthrough, although the fidelity of it isn't quite there according to Norm from Tested
- Norm also commented on the pancake lens having a vastly better sweet spot than most prior headsets, which alleviates the need to turn your head so often to have something in focus (finally)
- Lens FoV is 105'ish degrees, basically the same as Quest 2
- Has Eye tracking (72hz) and facial tracking (30hz) cameras for social use. The only other headset to reach parity in Quest Pro's price-range is the Vive Pro Eye w/ Facial Tracker add-on which runs $1400+$130
- There was no foveated rendering in the current software available despite the eye-tracking addition, although the hardware can do it supposedly
Other shit
- Meta Home/Horizon social crap still being developed/pushed, new Avatars to come at some point in the future
- No Meta FBT options still (Personally hoping the new controllers can double as feet trackers at some point. Still would need a waist tracker though, assuming Quest 2/Pro can handle this many controllers at once)
- That neural driven wristband from last year was showed off again, but still no consumer product as of yet (this thing has potential widespread application)
- Meta bought Armature (Batman: Blackgate, ReCore, various ports, and RE4 VR), Camouflaj (Iron Man VR), and Twisted Pixel ('Splosion Man)
- Privacy options being added for eye/face-tracking which you have to enable on a per-application basis. The software doesn't get access to the raw image data in any case, just what the OS extrapolates from it
- XCloud streaming coming to Quest
- No update on GTA San Andreas VR from last year's announcement
Quest 3
- Nothing on Quest 3 officially, although there was that leak a couple weeks back for just the headset itself, that showed it'd having pancake lens, full IPD adjustment, similar camera layout to the Quest Pro (eg. passthrough cameras), but lacking the eye/facial functionality, and keeping the crap head strap setup Quest 2 has, which means heavy battery in the front again
