lol i ninja edited that in before your post
man who eats plain donuts or bagels, l2fat
So BG nutritionists, I interrupt this episode of "Fatties gonna Fat" in order to bring to you a far more interesting conundrum that pertains to my own interests. Perhaps we can put down the pitchforks against my bulky compatriots and poke some fun at the
I need to gain weight. You heard me: Pack on the pounds.
I'm 5'6, 120lbs soaking wet and I'd like to put on at least 10-15lbs. I walk approximately 5miles a day, 4 days a week in between my commute from college A to college B and that's the majority of my exercise routine. I walk and I walk alot. None of that curling weights shit or going to gym to show my friends that the benchpress bar could kill me - just walking. When it isn't that 5mile walk, its a 2mile jaunt from errand to errand.
I drink mostly water, coffee and I eat those healthy cereals that smiling white, middle-aged people advertise on TV. Me and Fruity Pebbles had a rough breakup a few years ago when me Honey Bunches of Oats had a one-night stand if you were interested. A daily banana, orange and oatmeal with 2% milk often compliments my cereal-based breakfast or perhaps if I'm feeling generous I'll swap out the cereal for 2 fried eggs on wheat with whatever the hell isn't finished in the fridge. Soda is pretty much against my religion at this point.
Lunch is often either a Subway footlong (ham or turkey/cheese on wheat w/lettuce, onions and light mayo), some kinda gyro from a Halal Cart (love me some Halal cart lamb gyros) or when I'm a broke 2 beef patties or 2 of those dreaded fast food burgers that is the root of all evil in 'Murica. Of course I may change it up from time to time and toss in rice with some kinda teriyaki (beef/chicken) with vegetables but I'm pretty consistent.
Dinner is often some rotation of rice, a meat (baked chicken, sauteed fish or beef), canned vegetables (peas/carrots or canned beans), steamed vegetables (kale, cauliflower, broccoli or carrots) and its often in decent portions.
Plshlp!
Why do you need to gain weight? Your diet seems pretty solid. Are you looking to start lifting bro?
Are you bony or something? Sounds like your body doing what it should.
This is pretty much my reason: I feel like a toothpick and look like a toothpick. I fear that self-consciousness is at the heart of this manner. I often joke to myself and others that I'm on a 1st world diet looking like a 3rd world WHO ad.
The more rational side of myself is screaming into my ear "Shut the fuck up you whiny git about not being more muscular" but the vain side of myself wants to be a bit more "filled out" for lack of a better term.
Definitely some 1st world problems going on here.
If there's anything BG can help you with, it's how to gain the pounds. Just apply opposite rule: calories in > calories out.
i like what mike mentzer says about muscle gain.
high intensity, short burst (5-20 min) workouts. it's basically to tear muscle fibers quickly and allow proper resting.

if you're looking for more muscle, you don't really want to phrase it as gaining weight. You want to bulk up. If you want to gain weight, that's easy. Just stop doing all the stuff you're doing and start playing WoW or something. Seriously, I've been in a position where I HAD to gain weight because I was dangerously sick, and the dietitian basically just said "Eat like a fatty, as long as you don't give yourself too much diarrhea. And don't start exercising again until you're back up to a decent weight."
That was pretty much the extent of her advice, which I found mildly discomforting, since that's coming from one of the world's best hospitals. So... yeah. What you need is muscle mass!
After reading an entire thread of Ksandra's passive pleas for help, I got motivated to workout today, even though I just gave blood. feelsgoodman.jpg
I managed to go from 130lbs to 180lbs with a 20-30min workout daily plus an 8k calorie/day diet. 8k in healthy food, predominately whole foods, and supplements. My body just says "nope," to junk food now. Gimme a mango and I'm good to go.
Ronin, not clear if you are looking for more bulk or more fat.. My friend wants to pack on more weight in general and it is difficult if you have enough muscle mass. You may be better off switching off coffee, which normally suppresses hunger and increase the carbs you are taking in. I know for a fact that I lose weight when I decrease my carbs and simple sugars, but I suppose that is anecdotal evidence, gotta do what works for you.
I'm not sure why it is suggested that chicken has less sodium than turkey, it appears to be minimal. I would hope a baby would not have problems that would require that strong a limitation of salt:
chicken: http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/...products/699/2
turkey: http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/...products/831/2
eat more meat and lift.
My point wasn't really so much the difference in sodium as it was her taking the doctor's advice without researching it and applying to her daughter without applying it to herself.
Also, get the serving sizes right. If you're going to compare them using the USDA you could at least use equivalents (set both to 1/2 breast):

http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/...products/696/2
Turkey contains much more cholesterol than does chicken, so it isn't just the sodium that's a potential problem.
Again, if you weigh out equal masses of each (which will yield less chicken and more turkey) then obviously the nutritional differences are just about the same.
That's like saying you could eat this one cookie or eat this spoonful of sugar. They contain equal amounts of sugar but who the hell runs around eating spoonfuls of sugar unless they're taking medicine?
Barring any of that information, it still comes back to the point that being careful and moderating your diet (counting calories and amounts) is the superior way to lose weight. She's willing to do that for her daughter but not herself and then blames it on other people saying they're just making it worse or that she's a lost cause.
Who said I don't do any research? YOU did because I don't take bg's advice? BG isn't a health forum, this is the last place I would get advice from my daughter. That doesn't say I haven't researched elsewhere. Fuck, my bookmarks on firefox has more healthy kid recipe sites than anything else at this point.
I never, ever blamed anyone but myself in this thread (outside of recognizing my parents part to play). Feel free to keep posting assumptions and shit I never said though. She's willing to do that for her daughter but not herself and then blames it on other people saying they're just making it worse or that she's a lost cause.
And of course I would do it for my daughter. That's what a parent does. Makes sure their kids are healthy. Comparing me to her is so fuck-all ridiculous. I'm not going to make her have an unhealthy lifestyle just because mine is. And me being healthy isn't a requirement for her to be healthy.
I know I said I wouldn't post, but god damn I am not having one spread the idea my daughter isn't getting raised right. So fuck off jackass for thinking I'm not making the effort in regards to my daughter. I do the research. I am feeding her correctly, while having to deal with all the parents (and grandparents) around me thinking I'm a complete nutcase because she hasn't had ice cream or pizza or any of that shit.
You guys talk of moderation and you can't even see past your nose to know I am doing exactly that. Pasta once every few months IS moderation. I make sure everyday she gets her protein and veggies. She only drinks milk or water. I make sure she gets her grains intake daily through various foods.
Every site you will go to talks about giving them a variety of food. That is my issue with being fat. I am an insanely picky eater because my mom always fed me the same things. There is nothing wrong with feeding her turkey meatballs. she's already had beef meatballs. It is a good idea for her to have different styles of the same food to expand her likes. That way, when she's older, and she's making her own food decisions she's not going to go "ewww yuck" about trying something different, unlike me.
You always liked my meatballs ksan![]()
