"The Greatest Movie EVER! Podcast" did a great 2-part review about the show.

Very good review. It is true that it is hard to recommend this to some people because it seems very sexual. When I showed my gf the anime the first few episodes she was like WTF but she grew to love it. Also, I didn't know about the whole first ending paying homage to the old J-Drama Sukeban Deka...

Found a comparison of the two on crunchyroll

I'd never heard of Sukeban Deka before, but after watching the movie trailer, it's more than just the ending that was a homage.

Senketsu's design, the glove, and the blood-delivery mechanism, they're all taken from Sukeban Deku. It's uncanny, really.

I showed a good close friend of mine (who also grew up with anime) episode 3. I guess the transformation sequences, and the skimpy outfits, kinda made him turn away from it. It's funny, initially I did find it sexual but then realised, while it's nice and all, compared to some stuff Gulk has probably seen (and I've seen randomly plastered across as ads on the internet) it's actually rather tame/light/simple, as none of the bits is explicitly detailed or anything. I personally didn't find it fap worthy despite the comments in this thread lol (besides, animation isn't really my thing).

I watched a really old anime of this (and it was awesome) but the reference was lost on me probably because of the live action version. Still, I need to see this now.

    You're right.

Compared to explicit, hardcore porn Kill La Kill is rather tame.

It's certainly not something I'd call a starter anime and even with what it is, I'd probably put it more in a niche category, too. Some stuff was too over the top for my tastes, in part why I never really got into GL, but I guess the fan service with the girls never really bugged me much. Ironically, it seemed the beefcake got more explicit at times.

I don't know about tame. I'd say this anime was pretty over the top with the fan service, sexual innuendos, and flat-out incest molestation lol.

I suppose I grew up with the notion/knowledge that all things Japan related, anime especially, would be weird/amazing/over the top to the point of not seeing anything wrong or that bad about KLK to rate it "tame" lol, I guess mileage may vary.

Honestly, I still feel Kill La Kill was trying too hard to be another Gurren Lagann.

What? The two couldn't be more different aside from the high quality art/animation and bitchin' music. I didn't see Ragyo throwing galaxies around like frisbees or the moon trying to eat the earth.

While I did enjoy the series quite a bit, I have to agree with others, it's really relative to personal interests. It was good but it's also far from being one of my favourite series or one that I would recommend to someone right away. But again, that's purely because while KLK was entertaining and fun, it just wasn't... my cup of tea for a lack of better words.
