I enjoyed the games, but I can completely see why someone wouldn't like them. The gameplay isn't anything special and the story is soap opera tier.
God tier final boss music.
Don't care about the story, you can hate the story in KH while still admitting it's fun to play. I'll be the first to say the story in KH is a clusterfuck and the characters are generally uninspired but I'll be damned if that game play isn't fucking fun. I do enjoy the story, just not as a serious thing. It's mostly "Oh that happened, cool," or the opposite.
Ain't no denial here. Game play is fun as fuck, everything else depends on whether you like it or not (story/music/characters).
No one said that seriously, at least I thought they were being sarcastic or joking. I definitely didn't say that had anything to do with it. I mean shit, who didn't grow up watching Disney movies? Like I said I expected a lot better from the series as a whole. You can't tell me you liked what they did with older FF characters. They basically turned them into useless NPC's , when they could have used them as other characters to sub out Donald and Goofy for different play styles. Could you just imagine how much MORE fun a game like KH would be if they had done something like that? Not to mention the characters wouldn't be completely worthless.
I watched a good friend (at the time) play through pretty much the entire game. It was alright. Loved the music, though; love Hollow Bastion. I was more into Tactical RPGs at the time, so it was okay. I'm not going to bash the gameplay or whatever, but it just didn't latch onto me like a leech or something.
People are allowed to like and dislike things, Elcura. You don't have to try and win everyone to your side, you know.
I never played KH because of the disney characters. Yes I realize and own the fact that it's close minded and silly. I do the same with games where the protagonist is female. I just can't get into it.
I can tell you with movies it's Angelina Jolie. Every stinking movie she's in she has to be some form of a badass. It's so tiring. Games I give the benefit of the doubt since it's a game, but at times it's the annoying female grunt noises(like in tennis), oversexed characters, or the need to be over the top cutesy wootsy.
I can say I didn't mind the time you played as Mona Sax in Max Payne 2. While they did give her sex appeal, it wasn't over the top. I can't name any others off the top of my head.
I played ff13 for 8 hours and promptly put that hot garbage on ebay. I couldn't give two shits about one character in that game. I wouldn't mind trying out Xenosaga.
I agree with you, MOSTLY lol. While 2 is probably the most irritating gameplay style to get used to, battles in 1 just take sooooooo looooooong that I have to put it behind 2. That shit is probably the slowest turn-based system I have ever played.
That being said, thank god for the story, because it's the only thing that pushed me to go grab #2 and 3.
XS2 is honestly one of the most disappointing RPG's I've ever played. I was looking forward to it in a way I can't even begin to describe, but the battle system was just so awful I couldn't bring myself to beat it. I got close, but I couldn't close it out. Couple that with the disappointment of going from Mitsuda to Kajiura, the VA swaps, etc., man, what an absolute trainfuck.
3 made up for it, but still. Fuck Xenosaga 2. Anyone that says that game is better than anything else is clearly a crazy person.
I still say the original is the best, if for no reason other than it had that one song. Goddamn, people.
I have never had the privilage to play 3, and I never finished 1 because I got super far in the game, and then my save file got corrupted and said to myself I couldn't be bothered to start all over even if I did skip all the in-game movies(those things were far from fucking standard cutscenes to break up the gameplay.) I got really far in X2, but got to a point where there was a boss I could not kill because he would just full cure himself and I couldn't find out how to break his pattern or prevent it from happening so I said fuck it ultimately.
I don't really care for that series of games if you can even call them games.. just felt more like 5-10 minutes of game play depending on if you had to grind or not for the next bit of content just to watch the next full length feature film movie to tell another bit of the story. Weren't there suppose to be like 7 titles in this games series or something?
KH series is fucking awesome.
Xenosaga 1 was awesome.
Xenosaga 2 sucked balls and killed it for the rest of the series.

I liked the battle system in Xenosaga 2 because it was like a game of chess. You took a few turns to set up these major moves to deal the damage to your enemy. Once you understood how it worked, it was great. I would have liked a middle ground between that and the first game's system though, because 1's system reminded me of Legend of Legaia.
Haven't played 3 yet. Ya'll be hatin' though.
