Both of those games were fantastic, along with sleeping dogs. I'd gladly buy another of any of them.Their unrealistic sales expectations on both Tomb Raider/Hitman sales didn't help either.
I'm one of the accursed fanboys that would love to see a final fantasy 7 remake, i haven't played a single player ff since that x-2 atrocity. probably missed some good games but dont have a current gen console so I don't really have a choice in the matter(dont want a console of any type). There was a time when I thought they were going to remake ff7 for ps3(when that ff7 tech demo was going around), and that would probably be the only reason I'd buy a console.
Honestly, they could even frickin release a -second- game based off the FFXI engine and probably make bank. Just set it in another far-away section of Vana'diel and give FFXI players a bit of a loyalty boost while starting, tweak a few things that are too set in stone for FFXI proper to change, and make it PS3/PC/Xbox.
Call it FFXI-2, and there you go. Proven system, interested audience, far lower dev costs than the money hole FFXIV became.
VII fangirl here- would buy it in a heartbeat. Lot riding on xiv...
Since this is a "what I would buy from SE" thread now, I'll throw in that I'd really like a 360 box set - nothing fancy, just all the main, non-current gen titles on as few, 360 discs as possible. I'd bet 1-6 could easily fit on one disc, and I don't know how big the rest are, but I'd bet you could fit 7-10+12 on a couple discs.
I don't understand this hate for handhelds. Handhelds have some of the best games of the past two gens. Would it be better if they just made these handheld games with the same graphic quality and put them on a home console? Sure, I would prefer that too, but them being on a hand held doesn't automatically make them less fun or worse. Smart phone, yes, smart phones are horrible and not for video games. Handhelds have buttons and a dpad and analog stick(s).
I personally love handhelds because of the quality of games that come from them(less focus on graphics, more focus on actual gameplay and story), and the fact I can easily multitask a handheld while doing stuff on my PC, having to turn on a console, change my 2nd monitor to HDMI1, put discs in, etc is annoying as hell for me, and I hate not having 2 monitors.
Also focusing less on AAA 1080p HD graphics and putting that money instead into the actual gameplay is a good thing, especially since a lot of companies cannot afford to make graphics like that, so they make their stuff on handhelds. People expecting the best graphics is why you rarely see amazing JRPG's with subpar graphics that exist on handhelds on home consoles, people think the graphics need to be equal to every other games, including the devs, so they just cannot afford to make a game like that. If they weren't under such tension to constantly have the best graphics I'm sure we'd get even more games on a low budget, spending the majority of their budget on actual gameplay(you know, the only part that matters in a video game). Especially with SE's decline and how it's not making as much money, they spend WAAAY too much on graphics and shit when they could use standard PS2 graphics, no cutscenes, make a good game gameplay wise and still sell for a profit. Cheaper to make, makes more profit, and enjoyed the same. Graphics are pointless, I just want to play good video games, not watch a movie.
There is seriously so many good JRPG's on handhelds just because production costs are low, and they don't need to sell as many units to make a profit. Cheaper weaker graphics and less/no cutscenes with all budget spent on gameplay is really a win/win situation for us, and the companies who make them.
Jesus, so much ignorant smartphone hate.
I have to respectfully disagree as that is exactly why I bought my note 2, its a gaming beast. its nice walking around with every old console in your pocket, in addition to being able to do practically anything else you wanna do.Smart phone, yes, smart phones are horrible and not for video games. Handhelds have buttons and a dpad and analog stick(s).
you dont need dpads or sticks, touch screen controls have been able to emulate them fine. further more if you r3ally need those physical controls buy a bluetooth controller, I think newer ps3 controllers work just fine via bluetooth attached to a smartphone.
clearly you havent read the 40 hour work week thread then.
I can play every atari, nes, snes, genesis, psx, n64, gameboy, ds game right on my phone with probably a bigger screen than your handheld. Physical controls are not really an issue. So aside from physical buttons to press your handheld is inferior in every other way including hardware.
k
Apple needs to bring out the dedicated controller accessory already cause once they do android will copy, big publishers will flock and make fantastic games with physical controls, the gaming scene will be able to expand and fully accept our smartphone/tablet overlords and nintendo will finally die and become a software only distributor (new pokemons and marios rehashes finally on your phone!) and sony will let the vita die and focus on PS4+ and distributing psn games for smartphones/tablets along with making decent android based sony tablets.
My PSP plays all those games but DS games. It probably can play DS games? Not sure. Also I know nothing of smart phone games but from what I've been told they're mostly rehashes of the same genres over and over because there's only so much you can do with a touch screen and no buttons/analog/dpads. Show me RE: Revelations, tales of the abyss, luigi's mansion, monster hunter etc work on a smart phone and I'll consider them viable for playing real video games.
Every smartphone emulator has on screen analog/dpads/buttons so I'm not sure how that would prevent any of those games from working.
The on screen button emulation is ass. I find it very easy for my thumbs to slide off the "buttons" because there is nothing physically there to let me know I'm in the right place. That alone makes it difficult for me to want to play anything demanding precision and reflexes on a phone.
I could understand that - I had the same problems initially, after playing with various emulators for over a year though it's not a problem for me anymore. Again though that problem is easily rectified by using a bluetooth controller, but apparently mentioning such a thing to remedy the smart phones only gaming weakness is a crime. Shit they even make ones that attach to your device so it truly continues to be a handheld experience
now that you got me looking into this, im totally buying this next time i get paid:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0096L2SJ0/...SIN=B0096L2SJ0
take that on screen buttons!
I'd rather just buy a used PSP and hack it for the price. Unlike the PSP, the bluetooth controller becomes a paperweight outside of games.
Why would I want to play 15+ year old games on a phone?
I don't care what the games look like if they were to port the DS/PSP RPGs to consoles if they are good; I am just not going to play them on a fucking handheld device of any kind. Shit is lame, boring, and annoying to play on.
Because those games require more precise control and it's hard to tell where your buttons are when everything feels like a screen. Not to mention those buttons and controls would have to overlap with the game screen and UI, meaning overall there is much less space to look at stuff because of all the shit in the way. The controls will have to be simplified because there's no way you get more than analog direction, 4 face buttons and maybe a couple more and that means the game has to be designed differently from the get go to compensate for such obvious limitations.
So no, handhelds and smartphones aren't even in the same boat and in terms of control a handheld is far superior to anything software/emulation based.
So you've settled for second best and now you're convinced it's the way to go? External controllers don't do anything for you either, since the majority of developers are going to develop for the most common end user who do not expect to have to buy extra shit to play games on their phones. Any developer that makes a smartphone game that requires external controls is going to get laughed the fuck out of life. Which means for the most part smartphone games have to be designed for on-screen/touch controls which still makes them inferior to handheld consoles even with external controls.
You're still the worst person I know on BG.
