As a PC gamer, if I get either console it'll be a PS4.
I had both a 360 and PS3, although both were dust collectors. Think the PS3 got the most use at my house, but Xbox got the most at a friends house.
PS4
Xbox One
Both since I'm a spoiled brat
PC is superior

Sony basically says "stfu about DRM and used games and just buy the system"
I know I posted the other one in the xbox thread but I think that site is all satire.
oh yeah, seems it is, nevermindme! lol
God dammit I hate that site. It's not even good satire like the Onion. At least the Onion makes it clear (and funny). With this shit we have to conclude "Well, this certainly is plausible and highly likely," without doing any research.

As with every generation, I'll pick the console that has the games that I want to play on it. I lucked out with the 360 basically having a majority of the Bullet Hell games released for it (strangely enough).
Has it been officially said that kinect records and stores everything? I really can't see that shit happening.
I wanted to ask the same thing. Where does it say that these things will be recording all of this? Also, where does it say that it will be trying to identify how many different people are playing your game to decide the appropriate amount to charge you or was that BS in some gif I saw?
Not defending the xbox whatsoever. I'll probably be jumping off the xbox train and hopping on the ps4 bandwagon because I think what microsoft envisions with their new console is bullshit and way off target. Also too controlling.
It's probably not recording actual video (unless you want it to). But it is probably recording data on your behavior and how you respond to different things during media (movies, games, specific television, etc.). It's already been stated that it can measure your heart beat somehow (I don't know how well), and it can read emotional response. The fact that it's required to be connected and on at all times in order for the console to function pretty much implies that even if it isn't recording actual video/audio, it's processing it and saving data based on when you pay attention, when you don't pay attention, how you respond to different things (like which types of product placements and advertisements you pay more attention to, your emotional responses, if any, etc.).
I'm sure the money that can be made from having that kind of information is probably pretty substantial. And as far as it being able to charge you based on the number of people in the room, that's based off of a patent detailing it that MS filed for a while back iirc. I doubt they'll actually do that (especially seeing as how you could just use a different device to watch the movie), but it could potentially be used for offering theater movies at home or something like that in the future.
Kinect 2.0 is the new Smart House (the movie).
Too creepy, it must be connected to the internet at all times and it must be on at all times? So basically it records EVERYTHING you do.
No thanks, Big Brother.
I mean I feel like they just crossed the line when it came to convenient and desirable/controlling and invasive.
Even if it's "only" on when using content, no way I want that shit in my house. If that is the future of entertainment, fuck that shit, I'm out.
When you look at the advertising patents in conjunction with what the Kinect 2 can supposedly read about you (facial cues, eye movement, heartbeat, emotion based on facial cues) this is absolute gold to advertisers. It's ALL the information they could ever want and people are going to willingly give it to them FOR FREE. It will make Microsoft millions upon millions if companies pay Microsoft and they'd be pants on head retarded not to. It also (I assume) has the potential to invalidate Neilson ratings. If the install base becomes big enough, it turns your Xbox One into a non-opt-in ratings box. It will be able to tell in real time to companies what you're watch/DVRing/how much of the ads you're paying attention to, etc. It's almost hard to describe how great this is for everyone but the consumer. The amount of VERY VALUABLE information that is going to be potentially given away for free is insulting and absurd.
Everything that currently records data to send back to a company only does so when the user agrees to send it. Even the current gen kinect prompts the user to opt in or out of sending voice data to MS, probably because it is illegal to do it without permission. What makes you guys think that will change with kinect 2.0?
Honest question because I don't know the legality behind it: is there anything preventing them from burying your agreement to the opt in within the ToS/EULA?
Let me backpedal just a little bit, because I feel like I'm getting a little too conspiracy theory/into MS bashing territory and that's not my intention. I'll just say that the amount of information that they'll (seemingly) have access too with viewing patterns/retention rate/etc is going to be obscene, and that is the stuff that advertisers would kill for. If there isn't something, TV achievements or otherwise, locked behind a user agreement to allow them to take this data then I will be very, very shocked. They are going to put themselves in a position to make an assload of cash based on what they're tracking from the consumer. As much as I hate some of what they're doing this is really brilliant tech if works as advertised and could have some really great uses in gaming. Sadly, the the thing kinda creeps me out as a whole and their feelings about the consumer are off putting to me, so I likely won't be purchasing this.

I forgot that we still don't know what the ps4 system looks like
