I had three 360s die on me before I gave up on the console (2 completely bricked to the point of no return, the 3rd was on again off again until I sold it to gamestop so they could deal with the POS)..

First off, they do. Second of all, when I sold it to them it happened to be on a nice week so it was working haha.

My ps3 from shortly after launch still works perfectly. My x360 from a year or two after launch has a broken dvd drive, but otherwise works fine. I've also had a ps2's dvd drive die, but otherwise i've never had any console ever stop working in a way that wasn't easy to fix.

I'm sure you'd be better off selling it on ebay. With the right tools and knowledge they're not hard to fix, so people will definitely buy them.

I have the first model they made after they cut off backwards compatibility. It works fine, although I did have some issues with the HD output on certain games (FFXIII worked, all or most others didn't). I think that was a problem with the TV though, as switching to a different TV solved has solved the problem.


Irrelevant, but my ancient Version 1 PS2 still works- although sometimes I have to believe in the heart of the cards for it work on later PS2 games.

Like other people have said, yeah, they buy bricked consoles. They take a huge chunk out of what they pay though, and (as far as I know) stores can refuse them if they want to or get told to stop taking in broken units until further notice.

You're probably better offloading it on ebay or Craigslist, since you can almost assuredly get more than the $40 or $50 GS would pay for an old 60GB (if they even take that model anymore, not sure they do).

It's not really fair or accurate to be quite so dismissive of the fact that Miz's experience has been the reverse of other people's.

The only way you could really call him an outlier is if he was running 3 or 4 360s during the 09-10 fail rate % cataclysm and had no issues, but had the same number of PS3's brick. As it stands, any models from 2010-11 and onward had nearly identical failure rates to the PS3, so it's just six of one and half a dozen of the other. Even if he were running them during 09-10 and bricked a PS3 and not an 360, it still doesn't put him way out in left field or anything.

The smoking and drinking analogy was kind of terrible, both systems can and do have hardware failures, blah blah I don't know why I typed this out.

Multiple gaming sites/magazines did reader polls and not once did less than 50% of users report that they had a 360 fail on them

It doesn't detract from the Xbox One though, so I don't see why it matters much either way. But seriously... ya'll trippin' trying to minimize that shit.

I'm not trying to minimize the failure rate of the 360, not getting where you're getting that. The only point I was swinging for is that all it means is Miz was in the 40% of the non-failure rate and the 10ish% of the other. The 360's failure rate was atrocious, I lost 5 of them inside of two years before I gave up, but both systems can and do brick. Without exact numbers, it's kind of hard to dismiss his experience as an outlier. For all the context of the post tells anyone, he had a single PS3 brick and no 360's.

And you're right, all of this matters for absolute shit in the context of the thread, so I'm not really sure what purpose the discussion has as a whole.

FWIW Microsoft warranties and customer service regarding replacement of xbox was top god tier at least for me.
Hell just for that alone I'd buy an xbone (except for the little detail of wanting to play games and having a console being repaired defeats the purpose...)

Had my mothers, best friends Mother (lady was in her 60s). Wait outside in line at gamestop the day MGS4 released. I got the Backwards compatible PS3 bundle w/ MGS4. im sure that was a sight to see that lady walk out with a ps3 under her arm lol.

Are people's PS3's bricking out of nowhere or was there mishandling going on? Curious. I had a fatPS2 for the longest time (ffxi) until it fell about 1foot from a tv stand and never worked after that. But I still have another fat and slim still going strong. Had a PS3 from Uncharted bundle still chugging without any hiccups - are there any warning signs like the 360 sorta had for YLOD?

All I can say about PS3 Fats is, fuck the amount of screws you have to take out, just to get access to the blu-ray drive. My MGS4 PS3 YLOD'd during a couple weeks after GT5 hit.

Still plan to reflow one day to get a couple saves off of it.

Mine was a case of dust getting in I assume. MGS4 PS3 model has easily visible vent holes EVERYWHERE, and I stood mine vertically which probably didn't help.

I don't recall the thermal paste jobs on PS3s being too hot either.

my launch day ps1,2,and 3 are still working with slim versions of each somewhere else in the house. I think I've been through .... 6...maybe 7 360's. best buy bought all of them for me, so thanks for the best replacement plan ever to them.
