    Printer not working through RDP

So have an issue that I cant seem to figure out. Have a client who has a Windows 7 machine with a Deskjet 5150 attached to it through USB, the Win 7 can print to the printer just fine. She then RDPs into a Windows XP VM, which used to be able to print to the printer up until Monday when it just stopped working. I updated drivers on both sides, did a few fixes found online about modifying registry settings for printer ports but nothing seems to be working.

Anyone had an issue with this before? Very odd that it worked fine and now suddenly wont. She has to RDP to the VM due to this shitty 3rd party software they use that doesn't play nice over the WAN so the VM is on the LAN of the central office.

I'm assuming you probably have a custom shortcut for the RDP. If so is it set to attach the local resources upon connecting? If you are not using a shortcut, try creating one and making sure you go to the options and make sure use local printer is checked.

Also RDP into the XP box as an admin and make sure the print spooler didn't take a shit.

@ Rat, all those settings are set up correctly, even deselected and then reselected them just to make double sure.

@Melena, tried both shortcut and going programs>accessories>rdp and both have all local resources to connect checked off. Nothing up witht he printer spooler either when I logged in as admin.

Something I read said to set up the printer with the correct TS port, but there are 45 TS ports listed when installing a printer, any clue how to figure out which one exactly or do I need to just go down the list and see what happens? Right now it's set to one TS port but not working.

The event log shows an error "termservdevices 1111" stating that the driver can't be found for the printer...but i've installed the driver for the printer at least twice just to make sure. Could it be an issue between the Windows XP VM driver and the Windows 7 driver just not matching up correctly? I have no idea why it would work all this time and then suddenly break though.

Edit: nvm that tool might have worked Rat, was strange using it since it asked for the windows CD and wouldnt go past that, but I went to the Windows 7 machine, installed the printer again with a different name, rebooted the VM, logged in and now I don't have an error for that printer soooo hopefully it's all good. We'll see tomorrow when they come in to test it out.
