Summer 2013 Anime Season Thread

What's the deal? I liked Symphogear. Not in that I thought it was a masterpiece, but it was an entertaining show to watch. I didn't regret it at all.

The show is totally misleading, it looks all tragic, gory and dark but it isn't. The moment things start to get bleak it's back to happy-happy-days friendship and love save the world. I don't mind that in and of itself, I can watch practically anything and find stuff I like about it. The animation is good at times, as is the music and some fight scenes, but the characters are awful, the plot is lol-worthy (especially the Engrish) and nothing seems to happen until fucking shegod appears outta nowhere and is resolved without any consequence (which the first episode leads us to believe, but it's just from some dumb bitches perspective I think).

The worst thing is that the show could've been awesome, but I shouldn't blame a show too much for wasted potential (there was a reason for it, right?) but it is a stab in the dick. Kinda like Gargantia, except that's an even worse offender. At least Symphogear was kind enough to blow it's potential early.

But Symphogear is ultimately just a magical girl show with a bit more blood and death than usual. It's Nanoha, but Nanoha already did it better, and Madoka already did it darker.

If I recall, it was originally supposed to be some 24-26 EP show but got cut to 12-13 at the last minute, so the story wound up being gutted a bit. No sure how S2 makes up for that, if at all, but as someone who also watched it (and probably the closest I've gotten to the magical girl genre outside of seeing Cardcaptors randomly back in the day), it wasn't terrible. Not a favorite, either. I'd honestly consider it more of a bridge for girls into action shows than something college-aged guys should be holding to some super standard.

The only moment i recall from the first season it's when the comander saves the girls' asses from a noise, then you realize everything is a bullshit because a single man w/o the shitty armors can fight them and there is no reason to deal with those bitches being all emo when you can train 3-4 people to do the job better and quicker...i have to say i liked the 3rd girl, she had nice boobies. I'll check out the second season but i don't expect anything great.

I don't think he could technically kill the Noise if I'm remembering right, just slow them down/distract them. But yeah, he had a bit of the Overpowered Martial Artist cliche going for him. On the other hand, given how things unfolded, there could be an unmentioned reason for that strength relative to all the research and stuff they'd been doing on the relics and Noise.

It just seemed stupid to use schoolgirls when you can have some kind of pro-squad going on.. also he could fight vs the end chick boss quite equally and he stayed inside the building like he was useless, which he proved he isn't. I don't expect them to explain it but i guess if they do i would rate the series better...

Love Lab Ep1

That was fun. Started out slow, but once we were Introduced to the crazy girl, the show shined. Music was good, animation lively thanks to the amount of SAKUGA, and fun-factor tipping the top of the scale.

Jesus, All that SAKUGA GOODNESS and did they use Looney Tunes sound effect?

To Aru Kagaku no Railgun S EP 13

This episode did an outstanding job of culminating the emotions Misaka has been harboring since the moment she found out about the experiments. with the Tree Diagram now destroyed, Misaka was pushed into an inescapable rut of knowing all of her safe options were snatched from her, leaving her hopeless in a mess that is fast getting out of hand. it’s one that is centered on reflective character development. not to cut it short they also did an amazing job with death scenes of sisters(worse than manga).

Theirs a scene where one girl is afraid to go to the bathroom, so 2 girls go, and while one is inside the stall, some... blood? goo? thing comes up from the toilet and starts grabbing her and stripping her.
So the other girl pulls her out, but gets dragged into the room, and unlike the first girl, gets completely stripped naked

not sure if it will be in the corpse party airing though as there seems to be.. many.. variations of corpse party ＿冂○

Monogatari Series: Second Season Ep1

FINALLY! The show I loved the most from days long gone by has returned! It's nice to be able to enjoy an episode of Monogatari knowing that it's fun, and it's energetic without having hang ups of poor direction, spotty plot direction, but knowing Shaft the budget will probably run dry in second or third episode lol.
