Any impressions from any of y'all of the demo? I am really really enjoying the new changes/tweaks/additions. The new combos and moves for pretty much all weapons are welcome changes so far. The verticality is awesome. Jumping off of things to mount/attack monsters feels really fun. I really really can't wait to put 1000 hours into this beast.

I'm loving the demo. Right now I'm trying to decide on a weapon to focus on. In 3U I used LS, but I know that can be a pain online. Part of me wants to go with the charge ax, but I think a lot of people will use that, and I always like to see some variety (same with the bug staff).

I know I can switch and use different weapons, but I like to stick to one or two until I get a ways into the game.

I am the same way Galois. I stuck with Hunting Horn, Switch Axe and Bow in 3U and plan on focusing on only a few weapons this time too. I have never really dug in to Gunlance or Sword n Board. I may try them out. I will definitely check out the two new weapons too of course, and may use one of those as well.

Sure, yeah, I can use them all if I like, but after a while it is a nightmare to keep track of what sets of armor I am trying to make for each. Speaking of, Galois, you played the Japanese version yes? Do you recall if there are any ease of use changes with Equip Registration slots? Have they increased the number or anything?

Demo is much more fun the the 3U demo, but atm i have trouble playing more for the simple reason, that there is no progression (It's normal it's a demo)

But always the same 3 mobs, same zones, gets annoying for now.

Bit it doesn't change my hype for the full game

I imported MH4 for my Japanese 3DS, but I decided to hold off on 4G since I knew the English version was coming. To be honest, I only had a few equipment sets, so I didn't have an issue with slots. I didn't get too far; I finished the offline quests but only got to HR5.

I've been playing with the weapons, but so far I'm still favoring Switch Axe. Charge Blade is pretty good too for a more defensive thing. May take up those two and one of the Bow Guns.

So far I'm enjoying it, but most of what I enjoy is making the armor and weapons which is obviously not possible in the demo. Hopefully I can join you guys when it releases to get some hunting in. Haven't had a chance to play online since Tri years ago... I fear I may be sorely lacking at this point.

Well the good thing about joining hunts here (or somewhere like GAF) is that largely no one is 'pro only or gtfo'. I don't think anyone here is going to get upset at someone shaking the dust off and relearning a few things. =)

As for the demo, I agree that a lot of the draw is diminished because we can't do anything with our loots. I am still playing it once or twice a day, usually after Gaijin's latest video surfaces for a weapon that I have never played around with much. His last three, for those that haven't seen them, are pretty informative. With so much time to kill before release date, all his videos do is make me completely unsure what weapon I want to start with...

I am TERRIBLE with the bow. Maybe it's also because the one in the demo only has 1 charge level and even then doesn't fire very far or with a good arc, but I've tried several times and I suck each time. Great Jaggi is easy enough with any weapon, but anything more and I get my ass handed to me trying to set up a shot.

I LOVED the bow in Freedom 2 and FU. I hit a wall with Khezu and decided to make a bow to try that on its ugly ass (face? assface?) and it clicked. I used it as much as I could from that point on and had a blast. I didn't touch it at all in Portable 3rd or Tri though, and got sucked into the oddity that was the Khezu Bow in 3U. I wouldn't mind really focusing on Bow again in 4 ... I really love the new critical effects/screen shake when you are in perfect range.

Have you played HBG or LBG at all? I am kind of interested in playing ranged in 4U.

Bow against Plesioth 4evah. I have forever hated that fucking fight and only use ranged against it.

I think I did around 100 missions or so with bowguns? 1/3 of those LBG and the rest HBG. I really liked it. There is nothing like soloing with ranged. The puny armor defense just makes it exciting every time, getting hit can mean a quick Quest Fail.

I assume you've looked it over, but if not, check out Maze's guide (for 3U but it is a great place to start for the basic and intermediate info). He isn't as much of a fan of the series any longer but it is still the Bowgunner's Bible.

This is also pretty exciting news - MH4G: Bowgun Game Changer: Crit Distance Extender skill

That is a really good guide. I may just play some with a bowgun in 3U until 4U releases. Do you hop on 3U at all anymore?

On 3DS I still do, but not much on Wii U these days. Even less now that I have started a new character. Super early on and just doing Gunlance and SnS upgrades out in the Village and low rank Marina.

I just watched the charge blade video, and wow, I think this is what I'll be using. I know 75% of people will as well, but it looks like a lot of fun. The mechanics of the weapon seem pretty deep.

Smashing its face with a hammer is so god damn satisfying though.

If only you could switch mid fight

Bow when he's underwater, hammer outside
