They are? THANK FUCKING GOD. How's the new jumping on mechanic? I heard a bit about it but don't know a lot. That was such bullshit. Especially how some of the breathing skills that caused you to lose no oxygen STILL caused you to lose oxygen when hit by certain oxygen removing attacks (I'm looking at you Abyss Shitface or whatever it's name is).

Yes, I love that underwater fights have gone away. They're my least favorite part of MH3U.

You know, I really didn't abhor them like so very many people did, but I absolutely didn't love them. I am being reminded of that now that I am playing through a new character on 3U. Yeah, I think that I am finally firmly in the camp of people, so many people, that are happy to see them go.

I thought this was quite true!

As for the jumping mechanic, I really like it. It feels new like the underwater fights did, with the main difference being they feel more in line with the game. They make more sense. I am sure you've all heard it countless times already, but just in case... TIP: If you are online and someone mounts the monster, stop hitting the monster until their rodeo ride is over (and they've either failed and been thrown off, or the monster gets tripped). I don't think it is at all obvious until you are the one that has mounted the monster that others hitting it while you are on it causes the ride to get interupted/fail.

Ok, I watched other weapon videos and now I want to try them all. Maybe I'll play 3U for a bit and mess around with things, even though there are some changes.

The new jumping mechanics are amazing. I wouldn't even compare them to underwater in 3/U. Fights in 3/U that involved water were basically split into 2 phases, land and water, but the jumping and climbing aspects in 4/U seamlessly flow into every combat situation. Instead of that slow trudge up the side of a mountain or having to short hop and grab a ledge to climb up you're basically going full on parkour and you never stop moving for a second. There's just that aspect of frantic movement that was missing from the past monster hunters and it goes well with monsters improved and more aggressive AI in 4th gen.

As far as mounting, you can set your own auto-text when mounting a monster (I know gaijinhunter said his was "Going cowboy style, DONT ATTACK" or something to that effect) and you can ping the map when the monster is almost down to let people know its about to topple. A word of advice if you plan to use GS, if you are in the middle of a charge and you see the mount chat pop up for the love of god roll out of your charge. It's very easy to instantly knock someone off using a level 3 charge.

In addition if there are no good spots to jump off a ledge to do a mount attack you can actually attack from an upswing from Hammer/GS too.

Biggest failure again and it's probably more Nintendo's fault but no voice chat i suppose?

There was voice chat on the Wii U version but I don't really see that being possible on 3DS so....

at least online seems well setup

    How online works:

Player A creates a room. There are several fields they can fill in to make their room more searchable, from what guild hall they're in (low-/high-rank or G-rank), what monster they're mainly targeting, what type of room it is... Most of these fields can be left blank. There are also password options for the room: No password, passworded (friends OK), and passworded (friends not OK).

Friends OK passworded rooms don't require passwords from anybody who is on the friends list of anyone in the room.

Once in the room, that room has a specific ID that can be put in by others who have it in order to find it. Each room has space for four players. If the room's host leaves, hosting priveleges are passed to another player in the room. I have yet to figure out if there's any rhyme or reason to how it chooses the new host.

When searching for a room, you can specify the same search terms that the room's creator can set, and it'll return a list of rooms that match those terms.

You can also choose to see your friends list, and players who have rooms open will have their names lit up and you can join them directly.

And finally, you can add people to your 3DS friends list from within the game via the room settings, so if you meet a random who you like hunting with, you can make a friend request right then and there.

This right here is the greatest thing they have changed in any monster hunter generation ever. Cannot tell you how many times the host has left after getting his super rare drop and leaving the 3 other people who still want to farm high and dry.

Also something I noticed returned to 4/U that some people might not know about. You can swap Hunter cards (basically like trainer cards from pokemon, just little personal cards that show your stats with weapons/hunts) with everyone in the room. As you complete hunts with people you have the card for you gain Unity level with them. When you get to certain thresholds of Unity level (cumulative) you get a special Veggie Elder ticket which can be redeemed to the Veggie Elder in different zones to get rare drops from certain monsters. I believe the highest level ticket is the Cosmic Ticket after like 1250 Unity Levels and then it resets back to Plain. Cosmic Ticket lets you get the 2% drop rate G-Rank item for specific monsters depending on the zone you trade the Veggie Elder in. In short, there is no reason not to just swap Hunter cards with everyone in the room you make, as Unity level gets added to your total even if you only ever do one hunt with them. Plus you have the off-chance of hunting with them again to gain more Unity level. Unity level is gained based on the difficulty of the quest (I believe it's technically based on Guild Pts. earned but higher level quests give more Guild Pts. so it's pretty much the same). If you have a good group of 4 doing a really fast Advanced Quests you can potentially get a ticket upgrade every 10 min.

So I heard that offline and online are "linked".

Something like you can't unlock certain online rank unless you attain a rank on offline or vice versa

That would be stupid if true. The series has always separated the rankings of the two modes.

Maybe it's referring to the Monster Parts trader? I think you only get the ability to trade certain parts after specific quests, some of which are Village exclusive. That's how you get parts and gear from monsters that aren't in the game anymore like Barroth and Royal Ludroth.

I'm gonna have to look for it again but people were saying you couldn't do some online ranks if you didn't finish village quests or something
