Yeah. It is a little bit confusing. So instead of dumping vials into your Axe to charge it, you can dump them into your shield and boost that instead. To do so you simply (ha), press R during the animation for the X+A attack in Axe mode. Yeah, so while in Axe mode, press X+A and then in the middle of that animation you press R and your charge goes to the shield. You will get the hang of it eventually. Instead of doing the big badda boom splodey attack, you will charge your shield.

More specifically for the Shield charge thing, it's your Phials that you have loaded that you put into your shield. You get 30s per Phial of Shield Boost with a maximum of 300s if you charge the shield with 5 phials twice. You lose all your loaded Phials, though it's really not difficult to charge back up to Red and load 5 more again.

Also he doesn't mention it in that video but GaijinHunter has another video showing a really simple and quick way to get to Ultra Burst. If you press X+A after an attack in SnS mode you do the Shield Stab and if you press X+A from that you go into the splodey combo as Doom put it. So a simple way to charge shield > ultra splodey burst is to Slash > Charge Slash > Round Slash > Shield Stab > Load Up > Shield Stab > Axe Change Splodey Mode cancel into SnS mode > Repeat but instead of canceling the axe switch just let it go through.

To put it into game terminology it would be X > Charge A > X > X+A > R+X+A > X+A > X+A > R (before the X+A goes off) > Repeat minus the final R

And What does Doing R+a ( I think?) in SnS He seems to charge the shield but nothing happens

There he is taking the energy he has built up and charging the vials. That action is the hunter... uh... putting that charge up in there? Haha. I think we may have confused you though, If you watch the video I linked earlier, at 8:40 you will see him charge the vials (they go from glowing red and empty to full and white). That is the action you are seeing and just asked about.

Actually taking that charge, the white vials, and putting them into your shield instead of spending them to attack with Axe. At 9:00 he goes into spending those charges with the normal A button attack with Axe.

Around 10:00 he mentions spending the charged white vials on a Shield Boost. (X+A in Axe mode then R during animation).

I think what is confusing is that he doesn't go over the Super Burst (X+A with charged vials in Axe mode) early when he is discussing attacks or when he is showing how to build energy. He goes straight to Shield Boost, then Ultra Burst. (X+A in axe mode while you are Shield Boosted).

I'm loving the CB, but it'll definitely take some getting used to. I think I've found my weapon of choice though.

I definitely think I will dump a bit of time into both new weapons. It is a much harder choice this go 'round since nearly every weapon has been tweaked in a pretty great way. I have really enjoyed the changes so far. The new attacks with SA and SnS are great. The changes to HH are gerat. The new indicators from Bow. It is all really refreshing. I am well aware that this game wasn't regarded as well as 3G in Japan, but I am very excited to get going.

FYI, my understanding (for those that have enjoyed the stupid number entry to get into private rooms in the demo) is that the final release is the same. 14 digit room id's with hyphens. So, for those of you with interest in multiplayer, know that you can also join a room via friendlist. So sign up, save your fingers. No one wants to type numbers.

Just added myself. Started playing late in the 3U lifespan, but I beat the village and got decently far in the solo port. Been trying to learn the new weapons since I was primarily HBG and want to try melee this time around. Now I just need Amazon to get the game back in stock

So I just saw that if you have the axe buff ( red or yellow icon) and you empty your phials the buff will wear off automaticly even if the timer isisnt done.
