What's the deal with Ukanlos? Solo'd him this morning to hit G1, but his burrowing attack is ass. Homes in on you and you cant outrun it. Tried to dodge back towards him to get through as well as off to the side to try to get around and got me anyway each time.

Is there a trick I'm missing? I'm guessing I should have brought Sonic Bombs had I known that he had that attack.

EDIT: Should add that I'm using that Evasion +1, Evade Extender set I posted earlier in the thread now. Was hoping the extra roll distance would get me through to the other side.

You can outrun it, but you have to time it right. The bit of ground that is tearing out on his sides has funky hitboxes so a lot of it won't actually hit you. I found that if you sprint away from him at almost a 90 degree angle when he is pretty damned close... he will then pass by you and then emerge.

    Other options:
Block it.. Even a non-charged CB shield will see you take very little damage if you are at full stamina.
Farcaster. When I am in groups, I will just farcaster out and pick up a new one in the box. Easy.

The move has a fairly poor turning radius, and once you get out of its possible path he'll give up and surface. You can't always do that depending on distance and location on the map, but I generally shoot to run away at a 90 degree angle like Doom mentioned, maybe with a last second shift in angle away from Uk so you can Superman dive.

You know, it is this kind of thing that I am talking about when I talk about the mastery that this game allows for. You can play hunting horn, or you can master it. Other games, they just don't strike me as having this kind of insanely complex positioning strategy, timing strategy, etc. They mught be fun, they might be difficult, you might have to time things properly to truly master things, but in the end I just don't find them as challenging.

I've been struggling money-wise in HR4. All the different weps and armor sets I've been making has come back to bite me in the ass. None of my armor is useable now and I've been struggling to get an upgraded set made. Been farming HR Tetsucabra but just need this 1 stoutbone to drop to make the last piece. Any suggestions on good ways to farm money? Been spaming killing Rhens for about 4k a pop. Did 1 quest for about 14k doing Heat Exhaustion but Gravios and Iodrome were not kind to me and took a lot longer than I hoped.

Selling excess materials is the pretty standard way to go about it. I also make decent chunks of money charm farming. Ancient shards (or the lower rank equivalents) can result in good money selling the weapons they appraise into.

Just finished my first G rank armor. Full Seltas Z, pretty cool looking.

    Artillery Novice
    Guard Boost
    Partbreaker
    Load Up
    Knockout King
    Stam Recover Up

Obviously a Impact Phial CB set lol. Currently using it with Seditious C. Blade.

Edit: Seditious is way too annoying to use without Sharp Sword. Switched to Schwarzchild and used the extra slots it gives to bump up to Artillery Expert.

I have half a Steve G Rank set made, but need to farm up some of the regular materials (ores etc.). Was going to do it during lunch today, but left my DS on the dining room table. Fail.

Only got half the G1 Keys done last night. Did 3 Steve Urgents though which helped with the armor set. Got a Lens, but not sure if I should use it for the Regios Tassets X or for my LBG... Guess I'll end up doing a bunch more Steves so might as well use it for the armor as a stepping stone into something else.

Question time! I've been rolling around with a poison SnS lately and I absolutely love it. So the question that comes to mind is, how good are paralysis weapons? Do monsters grow a natural resistance to them as it procs more often? I know it takes multiple hits for an added effect to take place, so does that number increase the more times it procs? Also what's a good weapon for status effects? I'd imagine that probably boils more down to preference but just curious.

so far as I know monsters don't build permanent immunity to status effects, I believe once a status is applied they gain a temporary immunity before they can have it applied to them again, I may be wrong on this part? Some monsters are weaker or more resistant to certain status effects then others, basically my understanding is this, there's an invisible "Damage" bar for each status effect, and as you do damage with that status type the bar builds up, when it's full the monster gets the status applied to them, certain body parts of each monster also take differing amounts of the status "Damage" as well, Para is incredibly useful, especially in groups of multiple people using paralyze weapons.

Except for Poison, status effects won't apply while the monster is under whatever effect the weapon applies (I. E. can't add para while it's paralyzed). I've always understood that the resistance monsters build is permanent, there's just a cap on how high the resistance can go. It's usually something like 10x whatever the base resistance was, but it's unlikely a monster would even be alive by the time resistance got that high.

I understand its like a hidden bar that when a status effect hits that certain height the status effect kicks in (takes multiple strikes with my Queen's Rose to poison the P. Rathian.) I didn't know however is that hidden bar goes up the more times the status effect gets applied. Good to know however that it doesn't go up crazy enough so fast that status effects become useless in a long drawn out fight. So basically, paralysis is a go. I ask because I've been trying to see which status effect trees are worthwhile and which are not worth it, and poison seemed like a really good choice b/c, hey, added damage always a good thing. Also have a blastblight gunlance that is kinda just random extra boom which is always fun but doesn't add to slowing down a target.

Blast is never a bad choice, though not necessarily a good one against Teostra or Brachy. The explosion can stagger/knock over monsters, and the damage scales against monsters that have more HP then normal (Mohran, Gog, Joe)

You can look up resistances to status effects the same way you look up elements. It gives an initial and subsequent proc values as well as a max value when the effect is applied.

    Ex:
    Molten Tigrex:

Looking at this, you won't want to use Blast on M Tigrex becayuse it increases slowly to a high Max before doing very little damage. Sleep, Para, KO, Poison are all good choices, however.

EDIT: On this same subject, for the IG with Red Juice you attack twice from a jump. Do each of those count as a different hit? I'd assume so, as that's the nature of the weapon, but never actually looked into it.

Oh I'd assume so for sure Toki. I have assumed so actually. I mean, there have been plenty of times where the first hit didn't mount, but the second did, so that right there is telling me it registers separate and thus should be registering its own damage right? It's why I always have at least red if I am going to do the G Rank mining run in H. Mount and complete the back break on Rathalos as fast as I can for subquest end.

PS. Are we getting more DLC tomorrow? I haven't been keeping up on when the next batch is.

Yeah, I don't pay too much attention if it's the first or second hit that downs most of the time. I attack twice either way so it could be the first or the second.

Think DLC doesn't come til April 4 or something like that. Not positive.

Yay, G3. Feel like a real hunter now.

Also, damage calculations in MH are actually quite complicated, so making assumptions about them isn't very advisable when there is so much information out there on sites like the wikia and Kiranico.
