Thread: Creating a Competitive Server Environment for 2.0    

Per the announcements about legacy servers and regional data centers, as well as character data transferring from 1.0, my linkshell/free company is now looking for a new home out of the following NA data center choices:

Sargatanas
Balmung
Hyperion
Excalibur

Are any hardcore players, linkshells, and/or free companies (whether you did a lot in 1.0 or not) interested in collaborating with us to play on the same server in the interest of building a competitive, endgame community? This is not an advertisement for my FC; we don't lack for motivation, but sometimes having a player population on the same server that has the same mindset can be beneficial, whether it's the friendly rivalries or the late-night theorycrafting while making horrible purchasing decisions. We know that we'll be able to PUG dungeons as much as we want with the content finder, but we'd also enjoy not necessarily needing to PUG when we're not running our own events by having a large pool of friends whom we can trust to not be terrible.

Preliminary interest from my LS is Excalibur, but I plan to watch threads and such before making a final decision. I <3 you guys and your openness with strats, helpful natures and awesome videos, but I'm probably about the least competitive person you'll find and I try to run my LS that way too (not to say we're bads or anything, we had relics and triple slot shit and all... just no real interest in butting heads with other LSes). I'm cool with being buddies with any LS, but I'll have to pass on any sort of rivalry/competition. XD

I'm gonna be watching threads and stuff, but I'm not worried about most of the LSes represented here on BG. I'd be very happy playing with the vast majority of you guys. The OF however is another story. I don't wanna end up on the same server as so many of them...

Anyway yeah, looking forward to meeting some new buddies if I end up on the same server as any of you guys!

Yeah, just being able to socialize/do PUGs with a solid foundation of players on the server who give a fuck about the game they're playing will make us pretty happy.

excalibur is where we are at

JP here is very competitive, there is one super JP LS with only 8 people and they always seem to rush things first and "merc" them for gils
Its also very friendly JPs in terms of getting contents done, and usually they will even tag u along (well even much so if u have gils, like i said, they are mercenaries) even if your NA

as for NA community, we have quite a few douches...... well not like none of the server doesnt contain douches, but we have some really really bad people
as for NA event competition, but no one was close to legacy core afaik

also some LS during NA times who are not as hardcore but also pretty competitive and can get things done

Arth, you guys staying on Excalibur or is your JP LS moving to a JP region server?

im going into BG and lancaster is rying to pick a server,.... so im trying to convince him!!!

my JP friends are all implying they will stay in excalibre no matter what, i hope so so i dont have to tell/convince anyone to move with me if BG dont choose excalibre

if BG chose excalibre, its win-win for me and people on excalibre ^Q^

Oooh I see. Yeah, BG should come to Excalibur! :D The more the merrier hehe.

I'm staying with the LS so staying on Excalibur, just hoping BG also comes to our server and most of the old gang also stick around. Gonna be awesome! :D

Im hoping that there is a nice competitive nature for FFXIV, Im just hoping its healthy. Lets face it, FFXI got kinda ruined by the botting, cheating, hacking, doing all the shitty stuff lots of people did just so they could have that extra tiny little edge. XIV ARR is a nice new blanket, lets please not walk in, admire this wonderful thing that was remade just for us, and take a giant shit all over it.

Yeah, without the need to really outclaim anyone, there's not much room for an arms race. Automation should have far less of an impact on XIV. Unfair advantages will probably take the form of more traditional exploits, i.e. making use of unintended behavior or bugs to circumvent mechanics. 1.0's skeleton crew team wasn't as fast as they could have been in fixing those kinds of exploits, but they did make something of an effort (I'm thinking mostly of the reraise bullshit in the Moogle fight).

Seems like most of the competitive nature of ARR will def be coming from world firsts and PvP/RvR. We still don't know if RvR/Frontlines is going to be sever vs server type setup or just Grand Companies within a server fighting over stuff. If the first, definitely would be good to have an active server that's going to actually participate.

Hearing from more and more people who are coming to us in Excalibur. Makes me excited, tons of old friends and the server will be lively and have lots of social and hardcore endgame fun, something there for everyone. :D

Excalibur is certainly in the running for my FC but we have to consider all the options still. We are semi-hardcore, so hardcore with limited playtime. We'll see where we end up!
