-I loved the samsung joke with Airdrop. “No need to wander around the room bumping your phone with one another." I love how bluetooth finally has a use with Airdrop and you can also use it with wifi, it works with photos, videos, contacts and apps that have a share button.

It's a dig at Samsung for sure, but S-Beam isn't the only way to transfer files between devices. There is Wifi-Direct (android) and also Group play(Samsung S series). S Beam (Samsung)is more of a social thing and that is why it is advertised heavily. Hell my gf's mom and her friends have S3's and Notes and they love to take photos and make the phones "kiss" to share data because to them it's fun.

Group play lets you not only share files, but you can start a video and share it with other Samsung users and watch the same video at the same time. It does this via ad-hoc similar to airdrop.

So really airdop is something that has already existed and isn't anything new.
