    Titanfall DELUXE EDITION (PC/XB1/360)

Electronic Arts and independent videogame developer Respawn Entertainment today revealed the world debut of Titanfall, the studio’s inaugural title. Crafted by one of the co-creators of Call of Duty and other key developers behind the Call of Duty franchise, Titanfall is among the most highly anticipated of E3 2013, having been shrouded in mystery for nearly three years. The visionaries at Respawn have drawn inspiration from their proven experience in first-person action gaming, and are building on that pedigree by taking a new approach to game design and creating an all-new universe with Titanfall. The game is entirely multiplayer, in a new experience that combines fast-paced multiplayer action with the heroic set piece moments traditionally found in campaign mode. Set in a distant frontier torn apart by war, players will have the freedom to switch between fighting as elite assault Pilots or agile, heavily armored, 24-foot tall Titans.

“It’s an exciting time in the industry and it feels like the perfect time to be unveiling Titanfall,” said Vince Zampella, a Co-Creator of Call of Duty and Co-Founder of Respawn Entertainment. “Our passion at Respawn is games and we are focused on bringing something exciting to kick off the next generation of software.”

The universe of Titanfall juxtaposes small vs. giant, natural vs. industrial and man vs. machine. The game drops players into a conflict between the Interstellar Manufacturing Corporation (IMC) and the Militia as elite Pilots. With the ability to shift back and forth between pilot and Titan, players will have the freedom to change tactics on the fly, attacking or escaping depending on the situation. Titanfall Game Director Steve Fukuda added, “In addition to infusing the multiplayer experience with cinematic flavor, we’ve been rethinking fundamental combat and movement in the genre. Titanfall is unique in the way that it places equal emphasis on two drastically different and new ways to move and fight in a first-person shooter. The intersection of the two is a big part of what give Titanfall its iconic identity.”

Available spring 2014, Titanfall will be available for Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, PC and Xbox 360 games and entertainment system from Microsoft The Xbox 360 version of Titanfall is in development at an external development studio with support from Respawn.

    Dedicated Servers Confirmed
No peer hosting for Respawn’s new shooter; whether you’re on PC, Xbox 360 or Xbox One you’ll enjoy the benefits of dedicated servers while playing Titanfall.

“We’re using Microsoft’s cloud compute initiative to run all our servers for it, so it’s all running on dedicated servers,” EA’s Craig Owens told Joystiq.

“We’ll spin up and spin down servers as necessary, and it’ll do all the AI hosting and physics calculations and all matchmaking and all of that good stuff.

“It’s all dedicated servers, all the time.”

Depending on how long you’ve been following games scandals, this may not mean much to you, but before peer hosting became so common, the lack of dedicated servers for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 caused a huge ruckus.

It died down, as these things tend to do, but the core Infinity Ward team later left Activision in a much-publicised split, eventually forming Respawn Entertainment. It’s an interesting little cycle.

Titanfall is a multiplayer-focused shooter with jetpacks and mechs; it’s due on all three platforms in northern spring 2014.

    Timed Exclusive
Much has been made about the Xbox One’s various potential failings as a console since it’s gone head-to-head against the PlayStation 4 at E3 this week. But one of the biggest feathers in Microsoft’s console-cap has been the exclusivity of Respawn Entertainment and EA’s TitanFall, a multiplayer shooter featuring mechs and guns and all kinds of crazy. It sounds cool as hell, and it’s exclusive to the Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC. So that’s something against Sony’s new console, right?

    Well…maybe not.

According to a post on Eurogamer, the game is rumored to be exclusive to Microsoft’s platforms (yes, we’ll call PC a Microsoft platform for right now, considering Windows’ ubiquity) for only a year. After that, according to Respawn lead artist Joel Emslie, anything’s possible.

When asked whether PlayStation owners might get a chance to own a copy of TitanFall, Emsile was a bit coy:

It’s definitely not out of the question. We have a huge appreciation for the fans. Coming out and showing it to everybody, we’re super nervous and wanted to make sure everybody loved it. We love all our fans, whatever console they support. […] We want to make everybody happy, but this is where we’re at right now.
EA Labels’ head honcho Patrick Söderlund weighed in on the question as well, upping the coy-ante, but once again not outright shooting the idea down:

We haven’t communicated anything on that, and I can’t comment on that right now. We’re proud to be exclusive to Xbox.
So there you go. Wait a year, you’ll possibly (probably) get to see TitanFall on the PlayStation 4 (and maybe even 3, though another developer is porting the game to the Xbox 360). Or, you know, just grab it on the PC. There’s always PC.

Ha, it wouldn't surprise me if those publishers signed to MS are going over their contracts to determine when they can get out after watching the backlash vs MS.

Titanfall, the highly anticipated shooter from the creative minds of the Modern Warfare franchise, will not be implementing a single player campaign, according to Respawn Entertainment studio head, Vince Zampella.

“For us, we’re a small startup studio,” Zampella said, speaking to Game Industry. “We’re 60-some developers. So for us to be able to focus on one platform [helps]. For us it was really helpful to focus on the core game and what’s fun. It’s scoped more adequately to what we have the power to do as a start-up studio.”

“We make these single-player missions that take up all the focus of the studio, that take a huge team six months to make, and players run through it in 8 minutes,” he added. “And how many people finish the single-player game? It’s a small percentage. It’s like, everyone plays through the first level, but 5 percent of people finish the game. Really, you split the team. They’re two different games. They’re balanced differently, they’re scoped differently. But people spend hundreds of hours in the multiplayer experience versus ‘as little time as possible rushing to the end’ [in single-player]. So why do all the resources go there? To us it made sense to put it here. Now everybody sees all those resources, and multiplayer is better. For us it made sense.”

Although, Titanfall won’t include a single player campaign. It will feature some sort of narrative that can be accessed through the multiplayer mode, Zampella revealed.

Additionally, he also stated the following on why Titanfall won’t be competing against the Call Of Duty franchise; ”We’re going for something different. We’re not gunning for Call of Duty. We’re doing our thing. The important thing is to make sure what we’re doing is fun. I’m OK with Call of Duty being big. I helped create it, so I’m proud to see it’s something so big that it goes beyond me.”

Agreed, if they're going to make an awesome multiplayer game I'd rather them not even bother wasting resources making a half-hearted single-player campaign.
