After putting 30 hours into this, went back to brawl and did fucking horrible. I can't even dash attack anymore, lol. I kept moving the stick at a diagonal instead of straight forward. Same w/ fast fall
Something's wrong, i just won 2 straight games in glory
I feel like I just suddenly suck so bad with Sheik. Damned 3DS controls. Having the same problem where I go to move the d-pad left or right and it just does up. Really annoying between that and the fact I'm like 10 wins out of 30 matches.
I want my GCN controlls back ;_;. Need to stop playing smash run to unlock custom moves and git gud.
does anyone else play G&W? down smash seems a lil nerfed
I could be wrong but they may be pairing based on rating as I been having increasingly more difficult people to face... or the srzbizness people are the ones playing more at this point than day 1 or 2 folks
The way those two Sheiks from the NA tournies with the JP version were playing showed it is possible, just a patience thing though annoying
It is pretty good to me I feel unless there is a sweet spot that I didn't know about
I really don't mean to be a negative nancy, because the game is beyond what I expected of a 3DS version and is on the whole so much fun. Maybe people who didnt play Melee a whole lot are a lot more used to the controls here. I have a friend who didn't play until Brawl and he is having no problems.
Gonna try swapping hold/shield buttons around and see if that helps me more.
dat lil mac range jesus
@Rata/Meian: I'll add you in the morning or when I get off work. I got sucked into MGS2 tonight...
how could they fuck up zelda so badly, normals have slow start up and no range, same with specials. she is unusable. i thought palutane was bad but in contrast to zelds she is godlike>.>
I used Duck Hunt in a few games this morning. Was a lot of fun once I got used to how his specials worked. He's all about the traps/range, but his forward and up smashes also have good range.
Also started using Robin a bit. Going to try these two with Greninja in some more matches later after work.
Added everyone that posted their codes recently. I think. 3952-7553-2367
Zelda's always been awful. I used to play her a bit in Brawl and liked her but she's terrible. Her only redeeming feature used to be she could turn in Sheik but well...lol.
It's pretty easy to punish a roll, especially if they through past/through you. I have the same problem as Geno due to lag/controls where my punishing just fucking fail even though mentally I'm totally doing it.
I know it's possible. I just don't know how much effort I can/will put into the 3DS version, especially considering all I do so far is play a friends. WiiU version shouldn't be a problem though, so I can't wait.
Zelda isn't as bad as you're making her seem. Zelda has great options both on the ground and in the air. Her stupid Fair and Bair kill so early in a game which people usually live forever in. Land a kick at 80% and that's probably a stock. Nair is a great mixup, Uair punishes airdodges and Dair punishes poor recovery planning with a spike. Her DownB in the air is indispensable during recovery and UpB can not only no longer be easily gimped, but does a ridiculous knockback explosion and teleports so, so fast that it's always a threat. Playing against a proper Zelda, you'll always have to be aware if you're in UpB range... Regardless of if you're high in the air or on the ground. Excellent tools all around.
Ground game isn't nearly as good, but moves like Din's, dtilt, ftilt, utilt, usmash, and dsmash keep things solid. Her grab is lackluster for range (just like everyone's honestly; I'm HATING Smash4's grab ranges) and I don't think she has any guaranteed follow ups out of throws.
All said, I'd put Zelda probably at the middle of the pack, maybe a bit lower (around #30ish or so). Punish, play safe, stop rolling, and you'll win.
Yes and no. Shields last forever in Smash4, just want to point that out at first. They're amazing even compared to Brawl shields.
The biggest problem with rolling is the fact that you're always going to move the exact same distance away, with the exact same timing. And once you've identified someone's rolling habit, there's nothing easier to punish (well, used to be, but now airdodge into ground qualifies too). If I don't roll, I can move backwards and forwards exactly where I want, power shield or sidestep or shield grab or dash away or jump or or or. Options are endless, rolls get you punished.
Eventually against the roll spammer I just started playing with NORMALLY terrible options, like repeated Sheik Fsmashes just to cover the range since reacting with lag is hard as balls and I'm like a 280ms react speed. Then I stopped approaching and started throwing needles, waiting for approach, and punishing the fuck of whatever he did.
Rolling is bad; stop it.
