I feel like I lost track of time with Pokemon. I haven't played them since R/B/Y (Though I did emulate S/G for a small fraction of time) and when I picked up Y/Z, I was completely out of the loop and quit at Lumionus City or w/e it's called.
You ever watch those "Kids react to" videos on Youtube? Get ready to pull out the Metamucil and walker.
Spoiler: show
Bowsers are starting to give me trouble on Sheik. I randomly went on like a 10 match losing streak last night against a really good Bowser. Wasn't able to angle anything on the ground and he was always just *right there*.
Found a nifty little trick for Toon Link. Since you can't do the Bomb and Downward Spike anymore, if you throw a bomb overhead and then charge the spin attack on the ground, if the spin hits someone the bomb will come down and wont damage you but will hit them.
Out of curiosity, what does everyone's expected line ups look like compared to what you actually play?
This was my projected:
Spoiler: show
I play Mario more than Doc and have done very little with Shulk, Mac, Fox, and Link. I've been playing Robin and Duck Hunt much more often than any of these guys, though I haven't played in over a week because of work.

Sheik and Toon Link are still my two most used, though I shifted away from green Sheik to the red scarf/blue body suit.
I tend to start online matches with Lucina (Cherche or Tharja) or white Marth just to see how good the player really is and to fish out Little Macs. As far as pocket characters just for a change of pace: Zelda (white/tan), Mega Man (forever Metal Man), and Shulk (Melia or Dunban).
Not used a whole lot if ever: Greninja, Pikachu, Robin, Villager, Link or Ness. I have played Charizrd a few times and actually love its version of a glass cannon. People never see Flare Blitz coming and it can really set up a match early, great to use against other heavier characters or even a Lucario/Little Mac spammer.
My thoughts on Bowser/Sheik matchup:
- retreating Fairs
- don't bother trying to grab on landings
- needle lands (usual Sheik thing anyway) even if it's just one needle
- don't follow grabs with uairs unless it's guaranteed
- do not be under Bowser or try anything fancy
Just play straight up, annoying needling Sheik, hitting quick and getting out. I played against a decent one for a while last night, and I always did way, way better when I wasn't fishing for kills, and focusing on making sure I wasn't underneath Bowser. Most kills were offstage high up Bouncing Fishes after Fairs.
whoa 8 players
Yeah, I painfully learned about being under him and trying fancy stuff. Thanks for the matchup though, I'll have fiddle next time I run into one.
As for the Direct:
This announcer sucks. I want Iwata or Sakurai.
Hyrule Temple coming back: Oh thank you sweet baby jesus.
I find it funny how they wasted background/foreground stages on the Wii U. Would have been pretty wicked on the 3DS.
Oh my: That Ridley trolling. Hardcore beyond belief.
8 players is a bit much, but I can understand why they're doing it.
Item frequency is very cool.
Music selection back! Yay!
Classic Mode changes are neat, reminds me of like a mini Fire Emblem stage.
Mario Party: Smash Tour Edition. Mitebcool.
Oh god Master Fortress sound hardcore as hell.
Good to know the badges and equipment you get in the 3DS version will 100% carry over.
I see Last Story trophies. Final Smash trophies are really cool.
Tournament Mode not available upon release, but neat that they're working on it. Up to 64 players.
Yay stage builder. Seems pretty open and accessible.
Neat for them to attach the Bowser Jr. intro onto the back end of MegaMans.
Lmao 3 mins of EarthBound. How cute
VOICE CHAT
Kinda late for that reveal but yay
MEWTWO (if you buy both versions lol)
THANK YOU BASED SAKURAI!
That means there are indeed at least 3 character spots left. Let speculation resume.
