A lot of people kept their game cube controllers. esp since you could use them on the Wii.

People cling to arcade sticks for years for Street Fighter etc. Smash has always been a pad game, so it makes sense to allow the hard-core players the ability to use the same controller they've been rocking a decade plus.

Good thing the GC had such long cables (power and AV). I remember we used to have that thing pulled out halfway across our living room in college. Of course, there was the one time a roommate's girlfriend kicked it by accident and killed a memory card..

Have people not been playing with wireless controllers for the last 2 generations?

Never seen anyone complain about wireless controller lag when playing online, nor have I ever had issues with a wireless controller whilep laying competitively online. Granted, I dont play fighting games online. But it IS 2014.

Internet connection would be more of an issue than playing with a wireless controller, imo.

Maybe it was all in my head, but I found it easier to wavedash with a wired controller. In fact, I always insisted on having a wired controller because I was one of the few people in my group of friends who could wavedash.
