1) Wireless wouldn't be tournament standard regardless. It would solely cater to casuals if that was the case.
2) Gamecube controller has been the #1 top controller for Melee AND Brawl. The control scheme is supreme.
3) Wavebird was terrible.
4) Yes it's 2014, but a good controller is a good controller. Ask yourself why do people cling to Windows XP in 2014 (Even after End-of-Support).
I understand wanted wired for tourneys, but 99% of the people playing with not be playing this game in pro tourneys.
I have only used GC trol wired for playing SSB. My current set up wouldnt bode well for the wires. I would gladly trade an additional 5-10ms input lag that I will not notice to play wireless.
If they plan on allowing more old games and maybe new games to support the GC trol, and you are bringing it back from the dead for manufacturing, why not make a wireless version as well, or a hybrid that will function as wired when charge cable is plugged in. USB is the way of the future. Along with wireless.
I prefer wired all the way; won't even play my ps3 w/o the controller plugged in while I'm playing.
I never had lag issues with any of my wavebirds. Or none I noticed at least.
I've never had issues with my Wavebird either, unless the batteries were dying or some dick changed the connection channel without me noticing.
I've always wondered about this... does it send the commands down the USB if it's plugged in, or it is solely using it for power, and still sending via wireless?
Not sure, but I'd rather play where I have to be in a position to be plugged in full time than sit super far away and then when the shit dies because I forgot to plug it in, I completely have to change my setup to continue playing or take a break
If plugged in it uses the USB cable, unplugged it operates over bluetooth. PS4 controller works the same way.
Totally getting the adapter and controller. Day one for sure.
Now give me a Gamecube CD reader so I can play Melee on my Wii U and then I"ll be very happy.
5-10ms of lag is too much, people who don't notice lag on that or wavebirds have obviously never played fighting games at an above casual level, nor played smash at an above casual level. The first time i've ever touched a wavebird back when melee was out, i outright noticed the lag after 5 seconds of playing, i immediately returned it. If you ask people like me, sho, welt, or anyone else in the bg fgc, we'll outright tell you that wireless will be your death. I myself, as much as my gf dislikes it, have a setup to have wired controllers for when i have fgc sessions, hell i still have a crt tv for smash and beatmania iidx, wired has always been the way to go in the video game world, no matter what.
I want a kirby with chun-li buds on his head, going all lightning legs and spinning bird kick around the area!!
Pretty much what Nits and Rocl said. I'd go wired all the way on everything I use, and if people want the wireless so they can sit way back and chill, Imma let em lol
I don't even know what to think about supposed "leaks" anymore, so take these with as much salt as you want.
Up on 4chan atm, have yet to be proven false beyond someones Dad who works at Nintendo saying so, so to speak.

Uh-oh!
Spoiler: show
Like I said, take with a grain of salt.
Edit: Might as well throw these up too, since they started said 4chan thread. If there is to be a Metroid announcement at E3, Nintendo sure isn't keeping the lid on it. It would also lend heavily to a 3rd Metroid rep being present in Smash.
These are likely fake as hell though. The "2015" font looks a lot like Halo's.
