No kidding. If you were going to play even semi-competitively I would say that acknowledging tier lists (and match-ups...mostly match-ups) was a smart idea. But if you're playing casually then giving a shit about them is just a waste of energy.

I'm not gonna assume most people in this topic will play competitively so letting a tier list affect your decision is silly. Valid, but silly.

I'm assuming this game will be at Evo next year so I'll be somewhat concerned about the competitive aspects even though it definitely won't be my focus there. So I'll likely make sure to learn a top tier for when that rolls around, but no matter how bad he is nothing will stop me rocking out with Ike.

Seems like she is a solid counter to some characters.

She definitely excels as counter picking some. That match Aerolink had against Villager shut down Villager's original tactics of zoning with projectiles. Same applies with Little Mac as a good counter pick.

at this stage i feel like you are just talking out of your ass and making wild predictions with pessimism... the game hasn't even been released to the majority of the player base yet and you're saying omg there's no tech!!!11 it takes time to figure out tech, and people have already found some interesting things with vectoring, stun canceling, other strange movement options, etc. tech doesn't show up day 1. some games tech is still discovered years later...

Game is new, but it's confirmed that a number of the few advanced techs that were left in brawl were gutted or modified to limit an adept player, which is corroborated by sakurai stating his issue with smash is when a casual player feels they can never replicate what's necessary for a high level match. If you're going to come out swinging, do the slightest bit of research.

Not trying to sound ridiculous, but PM has a better chance of showing up at Evo next year than Smash 4 does. There's still going to be a ton of Smash 4 tournaments and a community etc and still big name players and all, but... Melee is Melee, man.

The only way Smash 4 will be at Evo is if Nintendo puts up a massive contribution to the pot. I'm talking 25k+. The FGC finally understood what was so popular with Smash--and it sure as hell wasn't Brawl, so why would they want to host a tournament for a game that drops the tech skill down another level?

Again, disclaimer before Xajii or anyone else gets emotional again, Smash 4 will be a great game and competitive in its own right, but it will not be anywhere close to the technical level of Melee/PM and be somewhere closer to a faster Brawl with combo potential.

The community went from Brawl back to Melee as a whole. That's a pretty big statement.

Sure ignore that Capcom just started that this last year and up until this point has pretty much disavowed actually supporting the FGC outside of token appearances by Ono or other employees.

At actual Smash events I would assume Melee would still be king, but Evo is not a Smash event. It gets high numbers sure but to most of the competitors/viewers it's very much a sideshow attraction. Shit I had to spend a good 10-15 minutes explaining to Calli and his woman during Evo how the game even works, he didn't even understand what the % meant.

Point being, FGC events cycle thru whatever is the new shit at the time, and as a primarily not Smash event Evo definitely falls under that banner. If Nintendo would throw money into the proceedings, you can be guaranteed it would be for the new version and not something they haven't made a profit off of in years.

This is 100% the case and why I find the whole "debate" over which should show up patronizing as fuck. Nintendo didn't put money into EVO last year as a way to do anything but secure a marketing opportunity for this year, period.

Midnight launch was great. Played demo in line w/ a bunch of plebs and a few decent players. Then found some good players and we all ended up going to iHop and playing till our 3ds' died. lol waitress wasn't too happy we all ordered a coffee and nothing else
