    Monitor auto off for me. Sleep/hibernate has always been terrible in oses. Can't speak for win 8 though. Probably never will.

    Terrible how? I use it with vista and it seems fine. Mostly I just don't want to have to open up my browser with it's 15 tabs every time I turn the computer back on or have to deal with any windows updates so I just use hibernate.

    I guess I didn't mean windows updates (since mine need permission to even download) but just all the kind of notifications that pop up for programs that want you to update whatever. I can see why you don't use it though, but why did you say it was terrible

    The only is notifications I get are updates ready to be installed ones. Coming out of hibernation is always a hassle. Wait time increase. System responsiveness decreased.

    If you have an ssd (this is 2013, why wouldn't you) you should just kill hibernation altogether.

    i didn't get one for now, maybe a year down the road or something. had a small budget wanted to pump it in other parts needed more than ssd.

    my gf almost exclusively uses hibernate on her laptop so I started trying it out on my desktop to conserve electricity and changed timers to hibernate after an hour but was annoyed to find that it would wake up at 3am for anti-virus then still be on by the morning
